L.A. DODGERS @ COLORADO | 07/16 | 8:40 PM EDT
ANALYSIS: If oddsmakers are going to keep giving me great prices on the Rockies +1.5 at home, I'll keep taking them. Their home record of 31-17 (same home RL record, best in majors) would put the Rox on a better than 100-win pace over 162 games at Coors. Colorado also is above .500 overall against lefties and faces Dodgers southpaw Julio Urias (not Walker Buehler as was originally listed; "Ferris" will go Saturday). Rox pitcher Antonio Senzatela is always much better in Denver (3.75 ERA this year) than away (6.03 ERA). He has allowed three earned or fewer in five straight at Coors Field.
SAN DIEGO @ WASHINGTON | 07/16 | 7:05 PM EDT
ANALYSIS: The Nats are significant home underdogs, enabling us to grab them on the run line at a reasonable price. On July 7, Washington shelled Chris Paddack for nine runs (eight earned) over two innings in a 15-5 win. Then the Padres used him in relief right before the All-Star Break, and he allowed four hits and a run over two innings vs. Colorado. Nats starter Erick Fedde also was hit hard by the Padres in San Diego, but he's thrown 12 scoreless innings in his last two home starts. Take Washington plus 1.5 runs at -135.
SAN FRANCISCO @ ST. LOUIS | 07/16 | 8:15 PM EDT
SAN FRANCISCO -135
ANALYSIS: The Giants come out of the break still in first place in the brutally tough NL West where three teams have won 53 games or more. San Francisco closed the break on a four-game win streak and start the second half with ace Kevin Gausman and his 1.73 ERA. The Giants have gone 12-6 behind him this season. The best part of this bet is that the price is 25 cents light. San Francisco to win.
MILWAUKEE @ CINCINNATI | 07/16 | 7:10 PM EDT
ANALYSIS: Very unusual scheduling here as these clubs played four games against one another in Milwaukee to close the first half -- the Reds won the final three -- and now they play three immediately again in Cincinnati. This is a pitching rematch of last Thursday between the Brewers' Adrian Houser and Reds' Tyler Mahle. Both guys allowed three runs in a ND. Mahle doesn't have great home splits but is 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA at night. Houser has been a bit worse on the road this year and has a 6.75 ERA in two visits to Cincinnati. The Reds are 11-1 in their past 12 as home favorites.
D-Unit Play. #927. Take Houston Astros (-125) Over Chicago White Sox (Friday @ 8:00 pm est)We like the Astros today to get the job done. They headed into the All Star break on a 3 game losing streak and have just a 3.5 lead over the A's for 1st in the division. They will send McCullers on the mound today who has been arguably their ace on the staff this year as he comes in with a 6-2 record 2.94 ERA. In his career vs the White Sox he is 3-1 with a 2.37 ERA. He took a tough loss his last time out against Oakland allowing only 2 runs but taking the loss. I expect another solid performance from him here again today and get back in the win column. The White Sox will send Cease to the mound who is having a career year, however he has struggled in his career vs the Astros posting a 0-2 record with a 7.71 ERA. The White Sox headed into the break on a 5 game win streak, hence the reason they are the trendy dog here today. I think the Astros coming off 3 losses in a row, will show up here today with McCullers on the mound. The Astros are favored for a reason here on the road and we like them to get it done today.
