Seattle Casinos: How to Gamble Online in Seattle, Washington

Seattle is the home of the Space Needle and is surrounded by beautiful landscapes on all sides. World-class restaurants and entertainment are not hard to come by; however, you can’t find a casino anywhere within Seattle city limits.

However, in a state with 29 tribal casinos operated by 22 different tribes, you do have options nearby to visit to play casino games. Within a one-hour drive from the city center, there are eight major casinos to choose from.

The closest casino is the Snoqualmie Casino, with a drive time of about thirty minutes. The physically closest casino option is the Suquamish Clearwater Casino. This location boasts over 100,000 square feet of casino floor; however, it is an hour of travel from Seattle and requires a ferry.

The most convenient option, though, is in your hand or nearby, on your mobile device. Despite a 2006 law saying that online gambling is illegal in Washington State, you have options to play video slots, poker, table games, keno, and more at offshore sportsbooks where you can win real money with secure payouts. Many of these sites offer a range of casino games in their secure internet casinos.

What is the difference between a U.S.-licensed site and an online betting site located offshore? Which ones should you join? Can you get in trouble for joining one? Where can you go to gamble in Seattle if you don’t want to try your hand at an online casino?

We answer all these questions and help you narrow down the best online casino opportunities in Seattle.

To help you make your decision, we have included an in-depth casino review for the five best sportsbooks that offer online casino gaming for Seattle users.

1. Bovada: Great for Poker and Sports Betting

Bovada Casino

Bovada is our first A+ rated online casino from Costa Rica. Those in Seattle hoping to bet on Seahawks and Gonzaga games this season will be in luck. An online site like Bovada is the only place in the state you could make such wagers on Washington college teams.

Fortunately, you get more than a great sportsbook with Bovada. It is one of the premiere sites for poker, as it belongs to the network with the most traffic among American online poker players. They have tournaments and cash games, in addition to video poker games.

Horse racing fans will also appreciate the dedicated racebook section with some markets for virtual horse races. And you can always gamble at the online casino with plenty of video slots, table games, and casino games featuring jackpots.

The crypto bonuses are outstanding through Bovada’s Welcome Bonus, where you can earn as much as $3,750 in bonus funds when making those first three deposits with crypto. The first deposit bonus includes a 25x rollover requirement, which goes up to 50x for the other two deposits. This means you must play through the bonus 25 or 50 times before it can be withdrawn as real cash.

Pros:

  • Top choice for online poker tournaments
  • Sports bettors will love prop builder
  • Very crypto-friendly
  • Simple design is not overwhelming for newbies

Cons:

  • Sports bonus not eligible for use in poker room
  • Casino bonus funds cannot be used for live dealer games

2. BetOnline: The Most Unique Video Slot Games

BetOnline Casino

One of Panama’s A+ rated online casinos, BetOnline has a long history of paying customers as fast as anyone in the industry with huge bonuses and some of the largest limits. But even just the casual gamer will be blown away by how many slots (300+), many of them exclusive to BetOnline, are available at your fingertips upon registering.

You also get the best selection of specialty games out of any offshore online casino on our list. Specialty games are things like keno and scratchcards, which are not always included in the casino sections of rival sites. The esports hub has betting markets for NBA 2k, FIFA, Starcraft Brood War, and several more.

Finally, the sportsbook combines one of the best prop builders with opinionated lines on the most popular American leagues. They also have plenty of live betting markets and the site’s design is one of the best.

Pros:

  • Should be industry standard for quick payouts
  • Many exclusive slot options
  • Specialty games (keno and scratchcards)
  • Fun contests to enter for sports (some are free)
  • 100% first-time crypto bonus

Cons:

  • Needs to add free demo versions of huge slot game library
  • High fees on credit card deposits
  • Only the third-busiest poker network in America

3. Heritage Sports: Play Demo Versions of Casino Games

Heritage Sports Casino

Formerly an invite-only offshore site, all users in Seattle and Washington State are eligible to join Heritage Sports. The sportsbook is famous for reduced juice lines (-108 odds) that will also give you cash back in one of the best rewards programs. The live betting section is also one of the deepest and easiest to use in the industry.

Those in seek of more than sports will be satisfied with Heritage Sports. While there are no poker tournaments, there is a live casino with dealers available for blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and Super6. Most of these tables have a limit of $500 but some of the blackjack tables go up to $2,500.

There are also plenty of slots, table games, and video poker variants to play. The nicest part is every one of them has a free demo version so you can practice if you are new to these games. For video poker and the like, you are given a fake money balance to wager to see how you’d do at no risk of losing real money.

The sign-up bonuses at Heritage Sports are not the biggest (50% up to $250), but you get access to nice perks like getting every eighth deposit on the house or a free parlay (maximum value of $500) for your birthday.

Pros:

  • Sports bettors get reduced juice (-108) and cash back
  • Free birthday parlay (up to $500 value)
  • Try all the casino games for free
  • Wide variety of transaction methods

Cons:

  • Those seeking poker tournaments need to look elsewhere

4. Bookmaker: Strong Overall Casino Site for Seattle Players

Bookmaker.eu Casino

The Costa Rica-based Bookmaker.eu has been around since 1996 and will pay out all winning customers on time. They are the gold standard for putting out early betting lines for sharps and like-minded bettors seeking the best value. They also are a top-notch sportsbook for live bets.

Seattle users should know that you get more than just a great sportsbook with Bookmaker. The casino section has slots, table games, and live dealer games. The selection of games may not be as deep as other sites in our list, but one of the coolest things you get at Bookmaker is the ability to sort games by RTP, or the Return to Player rate. This is the rate of wagers each game is expected to pay back to the customer over time, so the closer to 100%, the better.

Bookmaker has one of the best loyalty programs and is very friendly for crypto users, including far more than just Bitcoin.

Pros:

  • Get the earliest sports betting lines
  • Awesome reload bonuses in loyalty program
  • Can sort casino games by RTP
  • Good racebook
  • Non-crypto users get many guides to learn how to use it

  • Lacks poker tournaments

5. Everygame: Great Mobile Site

Everygame Sportsbook Homepage

Everygame is an Antigua-based sportsbook that lives up to its name. You truly can wager on every game market from the popular ones (NFL, NBA) to the more obscure ones such as snooker, table tennis, cricket, and handball. Darts, anyone? Everygame has it, and you can count on them to pay you in a timely manner when you request a withdrawal using one of their various payout methods.

The site also looks beautiful and edges out the competition in that department. Beyond the sports options, you really can see the site design pay off in the casino section, which is extensive with many slots and poker options. You can also play keno, try demo versions of games for free, and download poker software.

New users can get a $750 sign-up bonus, which is paid out over three $250 bonuses stemming from your first three deposits. These bonuses carry a 4x rollover requirement (-200 odds) before you can get the next bonus.

Pros:

  • Bonuses could be bigger given you need to hit rollover to unlock more
  • Not as many customer service contact methods as rivals
  • No devoted racebook

Gambling Laws in Seattle – Is gambling legal in Seattle?

Seattle is in King County, and like all areas in the state, it is regulated by the Washington State Gambling Commission (WSGC). There are several forms of gambling that are legal in the state, including but not limited to:

  • Tribal casinos with slot machines and table games
  • Sports bets placed in person on tribal casino grounds at tribal casinos
  • Sports bets placed using an online app on tribal land
  • Poker games at licensed card rooms
  • Horse racing is legal in all forms
  • Casual/social card games provided all players are on equal footing
  • State-wide lottery drawings and national drawings (Powerball and Mega Millions)

As you can see, you typically have to be on tribal casino grounds to bet for real money online, and you can’t even access any classic table games.

Alternatively, you can skip the travel to tribal lands but still have access to your favorite slot machines and gaming tables by visiting online casino sites.

Because these sites are operating offshore, they are bound to different laws and regulations. Because of this, they can offer online casino gaming to residents of Washington, and the rest of the United States.

Is online gambling in Seattle legal?

By and large, online gambling is not legal in Seattle or Washington State. One exception has been horse racing, for which you can place bets anywhere legally. The latest exception is a sports bet placed on an app while on tribal casino grounds. But you could not make that same bet while at home on your device.

Betting on in-state college teams is also prohibited at all locations. Washington is also one of a handful of states in the country where Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) at sites like FanDuel and DraftKings is not legal.

In 2006, an amendment was passed to make online gambling illegal in the state of Washington. Not only was it deemed illegal, but it could go on your record as a Class C Felony, the third-most serious type of crime in our legal system. This is still in effect today, and it is considered the most extreme anti-gambling law in the United States.

However, we have no evidence that anyone in Washington has ever been imprisoned or even prosecuted for violating this law. While certain online gambling sites will not accept users from Washington State because of this law, there are many that will, and they are safe to join and play.

Since these offshore sportsbooks are not physically located in Washington, they do not need to be regulated by the state. They only have to abide by the laws in their local jurisdiction, and online gambling has been legal in places like Costa Rica since the 1990s. This is why many do not have an issue with taking on players from Washington and other parts of the United States.

Land-Based Seattle Casinos

Maybe you try online betting sites and find out that online casino gaming is simply not your preferred gambling experience after all. If that’s the case, you can find information about Seattle’s largest casinos below:

Snoqualmie Casino Hotel (Snoqualmie, WA)

Of the 29 tribal casinos in Washington, this is the closest one to Seattle as it is about 30 minutes east of it. You can play over 1,700 slot machines and 50 table games. It is also the closest place you can travel from Seattle to place a legal sports bet at one of its 12 kiosks.

Roman Casino (Seattle, WA)

Located on Renton Ave. in Seattle, Roman Casino is part of the Maverick Gaming chain of gambling establishments. Players can play Baccarat and Fortune Pai Gow.

Fortune Poker (Renton, WA)

The self-proclaimed No. 1 Poker Room in Washington State. They hold poker tournaments with the schedule on the website.

Tulalip Casino Hotel (Tulalip, WA)

If you want to drive north about 40 miles, you can visit one of the nicest tribal casinos in the state, located in Tulalip. You can place sports bets on their DraftKings sportsbook, or you can play many slots, table games, or bingo.

Other Washington Casinos

All of the biggest casinos in Washington boast over 100,000 square feet of casino floor space. This is also the case for the Quil Ceda Creek Casino, which offers over 1,500 slot machines, along with over a dozen gaming tables. The Quil Ceda Creek Casino is located in Tulalip, as well.

The Muckleshoot Casino is located in Auburn. They have a broad range of casino games, including exciting tables, and thousands of video machines, including video poker machines.

There is also the Nisqually Red Wind Casino in Olympia.

What’s next for online casino-based gambling laws in Seattle?

Like everyone else in Washington State, Seattle residents will simply have to wait to see what the future brings for online casinos in the Evergreen State. The legalization in 2020 of online sports betting was a step in the right direction, but the state still has a long way to go to overcome its history of being anti-gambling.

There are currently no bills or plans to reform the online poker or online casino laws in the state. The 2006 amendment to make online gambling a felony was challenged in 2010 and upheld. It still stands today, casting a dark shadow over the state’s gambling future despite some recent progress.

What’s next for sports betting laws in Seattle?

It would be nice to imagine a future where you can pick up your phone and bet on the Seattle Seahawks to run the ball on the next play using a live market on your favorite mobile betting app while watching the game at home.

But we could still be years away from that future being a reality in Washington State. Part of the problem in many of these states right now is bickering over the revenue split from gambling, which could be massive (worth billions) each year. The card rooms and racetracks are angry with the tribal casinos for creating a monopoly on gambling profits since all the sports bets are coming on tribal grounds only.

In Washington, Senate Bill 5212 was introduced in early 2021 to further advance gambling in the state beyond the tribal casinos, but it was struck down in large part due to opposition from the tribes. The State’s Legislature often backs the tribes on these matters.

As of this time, there is not a new Senate Bill to further advance sports betting in the state. The only good news is that more of the tribal casinos are making deals with retail sportsbooks (FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Caesars, etc.) to offer them at their casinos for sports betting. Hopefully, this can create a more positive mood toward sports betting in the state.

But until more laws are passed, your best bet is to join an offshore sportsbook like the ones we have reviewed here (Bookmaker, Bovada, Heritage Sports, and BetOnline). Within minutes of creating your account, you could be taking advantage of welcome bonuses, creating parlays, and winning real money.
