Nebraska Sports Betting – Which are the best NE betting sites & sportsbooks?

The people of Nebraska voted in 2020 in favor of expanding gambling in the Cornhusker State, which would include the legalization of sports betting. But as of right now, not a single legal state-regulated bet has been placed in the state.

Worse, under the current sports betting regulations, only in-person betting is allowed and no online operators have a pathway to getting sports betting licenses yet. With Nebraska fans waiting for the process to work out as it has in an increasing number of states around the country, we have some good news.

You can access legal sports betting right now if you are a Nebraska resident. You just have to make use of offshore sportsbooks as offshore sportsbooks are more than happy to accept wagers from bettors in Nebraska State and it is legal for them to do so. In this guide, we will review the best online betting sites to join to bet on sports, what makes a good online sportsbook, and we look at the recent legal developments in the state that could lead to a brighter future for sports betting in Nebraska. We will also explore the wide range of online gambling options available to you using these sites.

The Best Nebraska Sportsbooks Reviews

The key thing to remember with all of these online betting sites is that while they are not regulated by the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission, they are operating under the regulations of their local jurisdictions where it is legal to do online sports betting. That is why they can offer sports betting to you in Nebraska as long as you are at least 18 years old. There is no law in Nebraska that will prevent you from joining one of these sites and placing real-money wagers today.

1. Bookmaker: Best Access to Early Lines

Bookmaker.eu

Bookmaker is our top-ranked online sportsbook from Costa Rica. Around since 1996, Bookmaker has earned its reputation for putting up the earliest lines for sports bettors, allowing you to get a great price before the public shifts the line.

Bookmaker also offers plenty of leagues around the world for live betting, and its prop bets have some unique features like the ability to bet on a player not scoring a touchdown in an NFL game.

The limits are high and the reward program is great for its reload bonuses, which can go up to 20% ($2,500 max value) if you reach the third tier of the program.

The casino offerings at Bookmaker are not the best out there, but they have live dealer games, table games, video slots, and video poker. There are no poker tournaments. But for anyone largely just interested in betting sports, it is hard to go wrong with Bookmaker.

Pros:

  • Sharps and new bettors welcomed
  • Handles live betting with ease
  • Great reload bonuses
  • High limits

Cons:

  • Casino options are lacking
  • Only recreational accounts can unlock loyalty program’s best reward tier

2. Heritage Sports: Best for Placing Live Bets

Heritage Sports homepage

Heritage Sports is a great choice for Nebraska users looking to bet on a huge range of sports from around the world and with some of the most competitive odds in the industry.

The bread-and-butter offering at Heritage Sports is the reduced juice-cash back program where you can get back a percentage of your bet volume as well as -108 sports lines instead of the traditional -110. You also can get cash back on the racebook and casino. The nice thing about any bonus money at Heritage Sports is that it can be used on any section of the site. There are no restrictions on that.

While their welcome bonus is relatively small, Heritage Sports also offers some of the more unique perks in the business. Users can get a free parlay for their birthday, with a max value of $500, and your every eighth deposit is free based on the average size of your previous seven deposits.

Pros:

  • Get reduced juice (-108) on sports lines
  • Does e-sports better than just about anyone
  • One of the best mobile sites
  • Cool perks like every eighth deposit is free

Cons:

  • Could use some bigger bonuses
  • No poker tournaments

3. Bovada: Best for Parlay Building with Props

Bovada Sportsbook Homepage

Bovada is a popular choice for sports bettors due to its great prop builder. You can select many different props and build a parlay from different games or the same game if you want. The site design is simple and makes this easy to do. Bovada’s mobile site is arguably the best on our list and you can add it to your home screen for quick access.

Live betting is also easy to do at Bovada, even on international sports, and their welcome bonus is as big as they come if you use crypto. You can get up to $3,750 in bonus funds over your first three deposits with crypto.

Bovada is also top of the class when it comes to hosting poker tournaments and offering virtual racing events. We just wish they would have a few more promotions for returning customers, but it is hard to deny the all-around excellence found at Bovada for gamblers of all types.

Pros:

  • Arguably the best prop builder out there
  • Ideal spot for poker fans
  • Very crypto-friendly with huge welcome bonus
  • Quality racebook

Cons:

  • Bookmaker puts up earlier lines
  • Doesn’t have as many existing customer promos as rivals

4. BetOnline: Best for Fast Payouts and Casino Games

BetOnline Homepage

BetOnline is another all-around great online betting site with a top-notch sportsbook, a racebook with the highest daily rebates, poker tournaments on par with Bovada, an e-sports section only bested by Heritage Sports, and plenty of fun contests and promotions specifically tailored to sports fans.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, BetOnline is on top of things when it comes to paying customers quickly and through a variety of banking methods.

We wish the reduced juice lines would be offered for more than just the NHL since it is the least popular of the four major American leagues, but anyone looking to bet on sports will not be disappointed with the experience provided at BetOnline.

Pros:

  • Live betting works well
  • Some of the fastest payouts
  • Lots of fun sports promotions like moneyline insurance bets
  • Takes suggestions for prop bets

Cons:

  • Not our favorite site design
  • Bovada has a better prop builder

5. BetAnySports: Best for Reduced Juice and Lottery Games

BetAnySports Homepage

Costa Rica is home to so many great online sportsbooks that not everyone may know about BetAnySports, but we have graded it as another A+ option.

You get the best reduced juice with -105 lines offered for all major sports. They have a wide variety of sports from around the world as well. The prop builder is right on par with the one at Bovada. They offer American Lines, Super Lines, and Premiere Lines for different sports markets.

You can also stream e-sports events at BetAnySports, they have seven different casinos to choose from and each provides a unique casino gaming library, and they are the only site on our list where you can play lottery drawing games from many different states, including the Pick 3 drawing for Nebraska.

Pros:

  • Reduced juice as low as -105
  • Elite prop builder
  • Play lottery drawings like Nebraska Pick 3
  • Customer service is 24/7

Cons:

  • Lower limits might drive high rollers to other sites
  • Not the sharpest site

6. BetUS: Best Access to Expert Analysis

BetUS homepage

Ranking just outside our top five, BetUS is a well-established online sportsbook with roots back to 1994. They have one of our favorite racebooks and casinos filled with unique games and demo versions available for all of them.

The sportsbook is more than sufficient, but the site design could be better if it wants to be on the same tier as Bookmaker, Heritage Sports, Bovada, and BetOnline.

But one area where BetUS excels above everyone is offering original content and analysis to help players become better and more informed gamblers. With BetUS TV, you get access to their YouTube channel filled with videos for just about every sports league, and they have analysis and expert predictions.

With expert analysis and generous bonuses, BetUS is worth your time as an all-around online casino.

Pros:

  • Useful guides
  • Video content providing expert picks and analysis
  • Unique bonus offerings
  • Many exclusive casino games with demos of each
  • Great racebook

Cons:

  • Props need better design
  • Rollover requirements are high

7. Everygame: Best Site Design

Everygame Sportsbook Homepage

Everygame is based in Antigua, and it was rebranded from its former name of Intertops to celebrate 25 years in the business. The site redesign is also great since Everygame has arguably the best-looking mobile site on our list. The casino section really shows this off and they also have downloadable poker software as they are one of the few choices on our list that hosts poker tournaments.

The sportsbook lives up to the name with just about every game offered. There are even some novelty betting markets and a chance to bet on the Powerball drawings.

Pros:

  • Lives up to name with just about every game available for betting
  • You can bet on the South African Powerball drawing
  • Best-looking site
  • Hosts poker tournaments

Cons:

  • No racebook
  • Doesn’t offer NFL props for every game

8. WagerWeb: Best for Crypto Users

WagerWeb Homepage

Nebraska sports bettors looking for an experience on par with Heritage Sports will enjoy WagerWeb. You get reduced juice (-108), good live betting, fair markets for e-sports, and crypto payouts are always fast and free. You also can enter a weekly NFL contest.

Every Monday, you can get 1% cash back, win or lose, on your sports bets. You can also get 5% cash back on your net casino losses. The nice thing about this bonus money is that it has no rollover requirement.

There are reasons to like WagerWeb over Heritage Sports like the welcome bonuses being bigger, but we think they are a little too crypto-focused, and we also prefer the other perks at Heritage Sports. But the two do offer a similar online sports betting experience.

Pros:

  • Fans of Heritage Sports will feel at home here
  • Does live betting well
  • Crypto friendly
  • Many NFL contests available

Cons:

  • Differing limits for different sports leagues
  • Heritage Sports has better perks

9. SportsBetting: Best for Unique Promos

Sportsbetting Homepage

SportsBetting is a sister site to BetOnline. That means you’ll get poker tournaments, good live betting and prop bets, and some of the highest limits and fastest payouts in the business.

You also will see similar sports promotions to those at BetOnline. Some of the current ones include $25 risk-free bets for the first time you make a live bet or prop bet. If you bet on an NFL team and it scores zero points, you can get a refund of up to $50 on your point-spread bet. If you bet on a fighter in a UFC championship fight that ends in a split decision, you can get a refund of up to $50.

SportsBetting also offers the most competitive odds on NHL with reduced juice lines.

Pros:

  • Fans of BetOnline will feel at home
  • Good sports contests
  • Play in poker tournaments with downloadable software
  • Fun sports promos

Cons:

  • Hard to justify using over the more popular BetOnline

10. GTbets: Best for Betting Your Favorite Teams

There are many states where GTbets does not operate, but Nebraska fans are free to join the site. Once inside, you’ll be treated to a cool promo where you can choose your favorite teams in football and basketball (college and pros) and get a free half-point on their spreads for the rest of the season. So, if you bet on the Dallas Cowboys as a 3-point favorite, you can now get them as a 2.5-point favorite with the same odds.

Beyond that, you can do live betting, horse racing, and a decent casino section at GTbets. They have a 100% cash sign-up bonus of up to $500, and then you can get up to $250 with a 50% bonus on your second deposit.

Pros:

  • Free half point on your favorite teams all season long
  • Helpful customer service
  • Provides “If” Bets
  • Good site design
  • Good rebate programs

Cons:

  • Not enough withdrawal methods

Sports betting was officially legalized in Nebraska in 2021, but there still has not been a legal state-regulated bet placed in the state as of yet. Some have said we may not see it happen until 2024 even.

What is the cause of the delay? We dig into that in our next section which looks at the legal process behind bringing sports betting to the people of the Cornhusker State.

Recent Developments for Sports Betting in Nebraska

In 2018, the Supreme Court struck down the PASPA ruling from the 1990s as unconstitutional. This lifted the ban on sports betting across the United States, giving sports betting legalization power to individual states.

Since then, roughly half the states and territories in the country have passed some legal form of sports betting with more in the process of doing so.

When it comes to Nebraska, the wheels were set in motion in November 2020 when voters decided to allow the construction of casinos with Vegas-style games and retail sports betting.

A bill was passed and signed by Governor Pete Ricketts in May 2021, making it legal to construct six retail casinos through the state’s racetracks. This will essentially turn them into racinos that will offer slot machines, table games, and retail sportsbooks for in-person sports betting. No part of the law was passed to expand this to online sports betting.

In 2022, the WarHorse Casino Lincoln opened as the first of these racinos at a temporary location while the main establishment is still being built. Similar temporary sites have been built for other racetracks as they await their grand openings in the next year or two.

Due to the lack of available space at these temporary sites, none of them have started taking in-person bets with retail sportsbooks. Once the real casinos are opened, it is expected that many popular sportsbooks will open up shop at these six locations, including FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, BetMGM, Caesars Sports, and more. A license is required to operate in the state, and there should be no problem for these companies to secure one with the Nebraska Gaming Commission, which oversees the gambling operation in the state.

Currently, though, there is still not a venue you can visit in Nebraska to place a legal sports wager. When that time does come, there will be some restrictions similar to other states that prohibit any wagers placed on in-state collegiate teams like the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Prop bets also will not be allowed.

Finally, there is still no bill in place, let alone any law passed, that will legalize online sports betting for Nebraska with sites like FanDuel and DraftKings. You can only use the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) option on those sites at this time.

The only way to get access to sports betting today without any restrictions in Nebraska is to join an offshore sportsbook like one of the 10 we just reviewed. The day will hopefully come soon enough when there are more options than that, but until it does, this is what you need to do.

Timeline of Gambling and Betting in Nebraska

The Nebraska of today is not known to be a pro-gambling state by any means. But for much of the 19th and 20th centuries, Omaha was considered to have more gambling per capita than any city in the United States.

The following timeline shows some of the most important gambling events in the Cornhusker State:

  • Early 1800s: Omaha, Nebraska is established as one of the country’s greatest gambling cities.
  • 1887: Tired of the illicit activities running rampant through the state, the Nebraska Legislature bans all forms of gambling.
  • 1934: The ban onpari-mutuel horse race betting is lifted, and the Nebraska Racing Commission is created to help oversee horse racing in the state.
  • 1958: The Nebraska State Constitution is again amended to allow bingo.
  • 1967: An amendment allows for the holding of charitable raffles.
  • 1988: Simulcast betting is approved at racetracks.
  • 1992: Over 63% of voters approve the creation of a state lottery, the 37th state to have one. The first scratch tickets in Nebraska are sold in 1993 with the first lotto drawing tickets sold in 1994.
  • 2004: Over 64% of voters said no to what could have been the addition of two casinos in the state.
  • 2017: A bill to legalize Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) in Nebraska was introduced but not passed. Nebraska residents are eligible to play DFS despite its legal status.
  • 2018: The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which effectively banned U.S. sports betting in 1992, is overturned by the Supreme Court, giving each state the choice to legalize sports betting.
  • 2020: Senator Justin Wayne introduces bill LB990, or the Games of Skill Act, that would reclassify things such as sports betting and poker as skill-based games and not chance-based gambling. This would stop them from being prohibited under anti-gambling laws. The bill has not passed. Also, Nebraska’s racebooks are granted permission to start including casino games on-site, making them racinos that could soon feature retail sports betting. But mobile sports betting has not been approved in any form yet.
  • 2022: The WarHorse Casino in Lincoln, Nebraska’s first major casino, opens. After five weeks of operation, the casino contributes nearly $800,000 to state property tax relief.
  • 2023: The Attorney General’s office approves the framework of regulations for sports betting in Nebraska on January 16th.

Nebraska Sports Betting Teams

Nebraska has never been home to a major professional sports team in the NFL, MLB, NHL, or NBA. However, it is the current home to a United Premier Soccer League team with one of the most unique names in sports: Nebraska Bugeaters FC.

But Nebraska is known for one of the most successful college football programs in the nation with the Nebraska Cornhuskers claiming five national championships in their history.

Here are the most notable college sports teams in Nebraska:

  • Division I: Nebraska Cornhuskers, Creighton Bluejays, Omaha Mavericks
  • Division II: Chadron State Eagles, Nebraska-Kearney Lopers, Wayne State Wildcats
  • Division III: Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves

Key Qualities of the Best Nebraska Sportsbooks

The following section reveals some of the criteria we use to grade the different online sportsbooks available to Nebraska users.

Wide Variety of Betting Options

In addition to traditional sports bets such as spreads, totals, and moneylines, we love to see a flexible sportsbook with a wide variety of parlay options. The ability to place multiple prop picks from the same game into one same-game parlay is a huge deal these days, and the ability to string together multiple same-game parlays in one bet is an even greater way to get a huge payout if you win. Sites like Bovada and BetOnline are very impressive with their prop builders and parlay possibilities.

Competitive Betting Odds

Anyone who is really into sports betting knows you probably need to have accounts with more than one sportsbook. Some online betting sites will consistently offer better prices. You might see a lot of -105 or -110 lines for something that shows up as -115 or -120 at a different sportsbook.

Some of the sportsbooks in our top 10, such as Heritage Sports and BetAnySports, offer reduced juice (-108 or -105) better than most. A sportsbook like BetOnline offers reduced juice but only on select markets like NHL.

Comparing the odds on the same bets at different sportsbooks will lead you to find the ones you want to use more often.

Bonuses and Promotions

Most online sportsbooks offer intriguing sign-up bonuses, but you will always want to read the terms and conditions to make sure you are really getting a good deal from that site. Often these bonuses will have a high rollover requirement before you can withdraw any real money, and they will have restrictions on what types of bets you make to satisfy that requirement. The funds will also usually expire in two weeks to one month after your receive them, so just be careful about believing what is offered on the main page.

Some of the best promotions and perks come to the loyal customers who continue using the site. Here is a list of some of the types of promos you can see as an existing user who is active:

  • Deposit matches (reload bonuses)
  • Risk-free bets (if you lose, you’ll get free bets credit)
  • Rebates/cash back program
  • Reduced juice
  • Rewards/loyalty program
  • Refer-a-friend program
  • Enhanced/boosted odds offered frequently
  • Contests (free or paid entry)
  • Free deposits under certain terms
  • A free parlay for your birthday at Heritage Sports (max value: $500)

Mobile-Friendly Interface to Make Bets

Whether you are building a parlay minutes before a game or trying to place a live bet during the action, we want a site that is easy to use with good navigation, highly readable, quality graphics, and it runs smoothly on our favorite device.

While it would be ideal to have downloadable apps for each of these sites, that is not the case at this time. You have to visit their mobile sites, but the sites are optimized to run on mobile devices like your phone anyway.

Trustworthy Reputation

In sports, are you going to trust the player who has been great for a decade or the young player on a three-week hot streak? There is value in having a track record of success and we certainly give a boost to online sportsbooks that have been in business for quite some time. Several of our top choices have roots going back to the 1990s, so that should make you feel comfortable that your information is going to be safe in their hands, and your winnings are going to be paid out properly and on time.

People are far more likely to leave bad reviews than good reviews of virtually anything online, but we can say we have personally vetted these sites to get a feel for how trustworthy they are. If a site was shady, it would never appear in our top 10 list because its grade would never be good enough.

Quick and Secure Sportsbook Payouts

There is arguably nothing more important than a sportsbook having a reputation for paying out winners in a timely fashion. If we find stories of a site stiffing customers on their winning bets, then you can bet we will not give that site a good review.

The best sportsbooks will offer users a variety of payment methods to keep up with the times. If someone wants a check or money order, that is fine. Other users may want to do everything with crypto since it’s the fastest and carries no fees, or use an eWallet or P2P app. Still, others prefer using their debit card. All those options should be available, and we also look for high credit card acceptance.

All these methods will come with different fees, processing times, and limits (minimum and maximum). You will have to study those at each site to figure out which works best for you, but we do a good job of picking sites that will have all these options available to you.

Helpful Customer Service

You could make the argument that sports betting is the section on an online betting site that is most open to customer disputes. Maybe there is a stat correction released later in the week by a professional league, or you might contest the inclusion of a player prop for a player who was a healthy scratch or injured immediately in a game and you believe that should be voided.

No matter what it is, you should be able to get in touch with a customer service agent 24/7. You also should have choices of how you want to contact the company, including phone calls, emails, or live chat with an agent. A quick response time is always appreciated.

FAQ – Placing Online Wagers on Sports in Nebraska

Can I sports bet in Nebraska?

Yes, retail sports betting was made legal in Nebraska in 2021, but there are still no retail sportsbooks operating at any of the six racetracks where they will be allowed to take bets in person. It is a work in progress with the hope that bets will be allowed soon.

Does Nebraska have online sports betting?

No, the approval of the state’s new sports betting rules did not include any component of online or mobile sports betting.

The only online sports betting in Nebraska is Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) at sites like FanDuel or DraftKings. The other option for online sports gambling in the state is to join an offshore sportsbook where wagers can be placed today for real money.

What gambling is allowed in Nebraska?

In-person sports betting, horse race betting and casino gambling are all legal in Nebraska, but there are currently no retail locations to engage in any of these activities. There are four tribal casinos operating in the state, however. Additionally, the state lottery is legal and available at any licensed retailer. For casino-style gambling and sports betting online you will need to use an offshore website.

When can I gamble in Nebraska?

It could still take years for the online sports betting industry to be legal and widely available to Nebraska residents. Laws would need to be passed to legalize online sports wagering, and then companies such as BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, and others would have to apply for licenses to operate in the state through the Nebraska Gaming Commission.

How to bet in Nebraska?

All you need to do is sign up with the offshore sportsbook or offshore casino of your choice, verify your identity, fund your account and then start placing wagers. We recommend using one of our top-rated gambling sites for this.
