Kansas Sports Betting – Reviewing the Best Online Sportsbooks in Kansas

It is a happy time for sports bettors in Kansas. Not only did the neighboring team Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII, but it was the first time that Kansas residents could place legal wagers on the big game.

Kansas is just one of the latest entries into the sports betting industry after legalizing sports betting in 2022. It had its sports betting launch back in September, just in time for residents to bet on the biggest football game of the year. The online sports betting sites are reporting increasing numbers and things are off to a good start for the Sunflower State.

But we look at where else you can bet on sports from Kansas, which betting markets are available, and the important features that go into a quality online sportsbook.

By September 2022, retail sports betting was available at commercial casinos and mobile betting apps became available for Kansas residents to download.

A Closer Look at Our Highest-Rated Sportsbooks

The following are our in-depth reviews of the top 10 online sportsbooks for Kansas users. All these sites are considered offshore, but they are operating with the laws of their local jurisdictions, and it is fine for you to join them from Kansas.

1. Bookmaker: Get the Earliest Betting Lines in Kansas

Bookmaker.eu

Our top-rated online sportsbook is Bookmaker.eu, which since 1996 has rightfully earned its reputation as being where the line originates. With the earliest lines in sports betting, sharps and novices alike can take advantage of the value in those lines before the public shifts things a different way.

Beyond being great for sides and totals, Bookmaker does have some unique prop bets that rivals lack. For instance, you can bet on a touchdown scorer in an NFL game at pretty much any sportsbook these days. But at Bookmaker, you can bet on a player to not score a touchdown too for select games, which is a nice way to hedge those bets.

But Bookmaker also has plenty of leagues and markets to explore with live betting, and the mobile site is very easy to navigate and place those bets. You also can join the loyalty program for great reload bonuses at Bookmaker, though the final tier of it is reserved for only recreational accounts, so winning players may be excluded from that. But overall, winning players will not be limited from betting at Bookmaker.

Pros

  • Posts lines earlier than other Kansas sports betting sites
  • Great reputation among sports bettors
  • High betting limits
  • Great reload bonuses
  • Wide variety of proposition bets

Cons

  • Non-sportsbook options are lacking
  • Third tier of loyalty program limited to recreational accounts

2. Heritage Sports: Fun for Live Betting

Heritage Sports homepage

Heritage Sports is one of the best when it comes to reduced juice (-108 lines) and cashback. You do not have to choose one or the other; you get both at Heritage Sports. The lines have reduced juice for all markets, and there is plenty of live betting to be done on a very easy-to-navigate mobile platform that is among our favorites.

But perhaps the biggest draw at Heritage Sports are the various cashback programs for the sportsbook, racebook, and casino. Sportsbook users can get cashback each quarter based on your overall betting volume. That cashback can be used anywhere on the site, including the casino that has demo versions of all its games for you to try and master before you ever spend a dime.

Heritage Sports has plenty of deposit options, pays winning users in a timely fashion and you have access to very good customer service.

Pros

  • Best for reduced juice and cashback
  • Get cashback based on your overall betting volume each quarter
  • User-friendly mobile interface
  • Great esports section
  • Small rollover on bonus funds
  • Use the cashback funds anywhere on the site you want to

Cons

  • No poker tournaments (video poker only)
  • Sign-up bonus is not as generous as other offshore sportsbooks

3. Bovada: Plenty of Prop Bets

Bovada Sportsbook Homepage

Bovada may be known for poker, but it also is a top choice for its sportsbook, especially among users who are new to offshore sportsbooks. With Bovada, you get access to an excellent prop builder that makes it easy to find your favorite props and play them as singles or build a parlay with them.

There are many sports from all over the world, so live betting is always available at Bovada. You also get one of the best racebooks, and no one does virtual racing better than Bovada.

The casino offerings are decent if that is your interest too on the side, but the sportsbook and poker are the main selling points of this betting site. The only real negative is they do not offer as many sports betting promotions as other sites do. But the welcome bonuses are generous and can be really big if you use crypto to deposit.

Pros

  • Must-have for poker fans
  • Our favorite prop builder
  • Plenty of sports markets options, including niche sports like snooker and darts
  • Good reward program
  • Big bonuses for crypto deposits

Cons

  • Offers no ongoing promos for loyal users
  • Racebook needs more info on trainers and jockeys

4. BetOnline: Fast Payouts and Opinionated Lines

BetOnline Homepage

BetOnline features a quality sportsbook with opinionated lines that can be used to build fun parlays with odds you won’t get anywhere else. You can also do live betting on a variety of markets and leagues, and the racebook offers the most daily rebates at 9% on exotic wagers.

The casino section is massive, and BetOnline also offers poker on par with the tournaments found at Bovada. You also get big welcome bonuses, high limits, and fast payouts. This is a great choice of sportsbook for the Kansas user who just wants to get started with sports betting while also having the options available for poker and some casino game fun.

Speaking of fun, BetOnline has some of the most unique sports promos, as you can get cashback if your bet loses because an NBA team blew a halftime lead, or your football team got shut out, or there was a draw in an MMA fight.

Pros

  • Make use of opinionated lines on popular markets
  • Tons of casino games to play
  • Get paid quickly
  • Big poker tournaments

Cons

  • Casino games lack free demo versions
  • NHL is the only market with reduced juice

5. BetAnySports: Great for Reduced Juice

BetAnySports Homepage

Once you get over the bland site design and the confusing layout of different sports lines, you find that BetAnySports is a really great online sportsbook. The prop builder is excellent and on par with the best on the list. The reduced juice has the best lines available at -105, and while the welcome bonuses are small, you can get cashback through programs on the site.

Plenty of different leagues and markets are available for betting too, and they have live betting always going on throughout the day. Getting your money is not that difficult with a variety of withdrawal methods available.

If you are a fan of lottery games, then BetAnySports is a must-have because they have a whole lottery section where you can play your favorite numbers in the daily drawings for various states.

Pros

  • Get best reduced juice at -105
  • Underrated prop builder in sportsbook
  • Great casino variety
  • Mobile site is solid for live betting action
  • Play the lottery from home

Cons

  • User interface could be better
  • Smaller sign-up bonuses than rival betting sites

6. BetUS: Get Expert Analysis

BetUS homepage

BetUS has long been a popular online sportsbook. They do unique promos where you can get more than 100% of your deposit split up into the casino and sportsbook. Just keep in mind the rollover requirements are some of the highest on our list.

But you get access to many different sports betting markets and leagues. More than anything, you get original content with BetUS, including informative guides that help you become a better gambler. BetUS TV is a YouTube channel that carries a significant number of original shows, covering just about any sport you can think of, and you can watch those to get expert analysis and predictions to help with your bets. That is a unique touch other sportsbooks should follow.

BetUS is another one of those solid all-around choices for a full gambling experience for Kansas users.

Pros

  • Original content with BetUS TV
  • Unique way of doing promos
  • Casino is deep and full of demos
  • Check out their guides to get better at gambling

Cons

  • Some of the highest rollover requirements
  • Design of the prop builder needs to be improved

7. WagerWeb: Best Crypto Promos

WagerWeb Homepage

With WagerWeb, you can say that the way it caters towards crypto users is both a pro and a con. If you do not use crypto, you will not get the best promos at WagerWeb, as those are reserved for people making deposits with Bitcoin and MoneyGram.

But beyond that quibble, WagerWeb does a lot well with a solid esports section, a good racebook, and a sportsbook with a good mobile site for doing live betting over a variety of global markets at all hours of the day.

If any of this sounds fairly familiar, that is because WagerWeb is a sister site to Heritage Sports, our No. 2 online sports betting site. We do prefer the customer service and bonuses there, as customer service is not 24/7 at WagerWeb.

Pros

  • Quality mobile site design
  • No rollover on cashback funds
  • Highly catered to crypto users

Cons

  • Higher rollover on welcome bonus than most
  • Customer service does not operate 24/7

8. JustBet: Early Sports Betting Lines

JustBet Sportsbook Homepage

Bookmaker is our top-rated sportsbook, and it has a sister site called JustBet that went up about a decade ago. Surprisingly, we still prefer the site design at Bookmaker, but you can definitely get the job done with pregame and live betting at JustBet over a variety of sports markets and leagues.

Also like Bookmaker, JustBet has a three-tier loyalty program built around offering great reload bonuses. But the third tier is reserved for recreational accounts only, so you may need to contact customer support to see if you qualify for that or not if you are concerned.

The only reason we rank JustBet this much lower than Bookmaker is that it does not bring anything new to the table like a poker room or a lot more casino games to bolster what is the advantage of offering the earliest lines in sports betting. But Bookmaker is a fine choice to try copying for success.

Pros

  • High limits
  • Casino section has RTP info
  • Best for getting those early sports betting lines

Cons

  • Does not have poker tournaments
  • Not as well-rounded as sister site Bookmaker

9. Everygame: Lives Up to Name

Everygame Sportsbook Homepage

After 25 years in service, Intertops rebranded itself into Everygame. The name fits the new site as they do offer just about every game on the global sports market as well as some non-sports betting markets like the South African Powerball drawing.

The real prize at Everygame is not the sportsbook but the poker software and casino. That is where the superior user interface and site design really shine at Everygame. You can still get the job done betting sports here, but it is more for a casual sports bettor than a hardcore one who will find more to do at a Bookmaker or BetAnySports.

But if some great casino gaming is what you eye over some sports betting, then you should give Everygame a chance too.

Pros

  • Very good selection of sports leagues
  • Some of the best site designs on the list
  • Poker tournaments available
  • Try casino games for free

Cons

  • Lacks a racebook
  • More for casual sports bettors

10. SportsBetting.ag: Unique Sports Promos

Sportsbetting Homepage

SportsBetting.ag is a sister site to BetOnline, and you almost have to admire the simplicity of the names here as these sites get right to the point of why they exist. But oddly enough, some of the best aspects of SportsBetting are not the sports betting.

They have poker tournaments just like BetOnline as they run on the same network, so you can win big money there if you are a big poker fan and have some skills. They also have a huge collection of casino games to play, though unfortunately there are no demo versions available.

But the sportsbook is a solid one with opinionated lines, a decent prop builder, parlay options across multiple sports, and you can get a $25 risk-free bet for your first live bet. You can also opt in to many fun sports promos just like at BetOnline for things like money back if your NBA moneyline bet blows a 15-point lead after halftime or if the fighter you back in a UFC fight ends in a draw.

Pros

  • Follows closely to what BetOnline offers
  • Enjoy their poker tournaments
  • So many fun sports promos other sites do not have
  • High limits and fast payouts
  • Hundreds of casino games to try

Cons

  • Not the best prop builder
  • Lacks real innovation over BetOnline

Kansas Sports Betting History

Like most states, Kansas did not offer sports betting until very recently. This is largely due to the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, otherwise known as PASPA. This ruling effectively made it illegal to bet on sports throughout most of the country.

But in 2018, the Supreme Court overturned PASPA, putting control back into the state’s hands to decide if they want to make sports betting legal or not. Many states have successfully passed sports betting legislation, and Kansas spent a couple of years trying to get the right bill and support for it. In 2022, with the signing of Senate Bill 84, sports wagers finally became legal.

This sports betting legislation paved the way to legalize retail sportsbooks and online betting platforms to operate in Kansas. By September 2022, sports bets were being placed statewide. By February 2023, the state already reported its highest month of wagering on sports yet, with a handle of over $200 million in the month of January.

The Recent Timeline of Sports Gambling in Kansas

The following timeline shows the recent major events in sports gambling in the Sunflower State:

  • 2023: In February, Kansas reports its highest month in sports betting handle yet, crossing the $200 million mark for the first time in the month of January.
  • 2022: One week after undergoing a soft launch on September 1, online and retail sports betting both go live in the state, with a full-scale launch just in time for the 2022 NFL season.
  • 2022: SB 84 is approved by both the Kansas House and Senate (by a 21-13 vote), leading to Gov. Laura Kelly signing the bill into law in May. It would legalize both in-person sportsbooks and online sports betting in the state of Kansas.
  • 2021: Senate Bill 84 (SB 84) is crafted to legalize sports betting (retail and online sportsbooks) in Kansas. It would eventually lose favor before getting revised heavily the following year.
  • 2020: The pandemic cut short the debate between a House bill and Senate bill for sports gambling with big differences in the sports betting tax rate and who would control the wagering (the state’s four land-based casinos or its lottery retailers).
  • 2019: An early effort at advancing sports betting in Kansas saw strong opposition from the state’s retail casinos, killing the bill that would have allowed the Kansas Lottery to control sports betting at a 50% tax rate.
  • 2018: PASPA is reversed by the Supreme Court, giving each individual state the green light to decide if they wanted to allow legal sportsbooks or not.
  • 2015: A Kansas bill legalizes Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) contests.

Kansas’ Sports Betting Regulatory Body

In Kansas, any sports betting is regulated by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission (KRGC). Whether it is retail sportsbooks offering in-person betting at the casinos, or online sportsbooks, they must be licensed and in compliance with the regulations on sports gambling set by the KRGC.

This has been the case ever since the sports betting law went into effect in the state in 2022. These sportsbooks must apply for a license and enforce the sports betting tax rate and report all sports gambling revenue to the state. The KRGC can do external auditing of these companies and make sure they are offering fair gaming services to the residents of Kansas.

With online betting, you will find a wide range of betting markets, from your standard totals bet, to many different game props. It can get confusing, and you may not even be aware of just how much you can bet on, so we have included a handy little guide to show you the different betting markets available to Kansas sports bettors.

  • Moneyline: Simply pick the winner of a particular football game, basketball game or other sports event.
  • Futures: These are bets that will determine something down the road after a series of games are played, like who will win the Super Bowl or this year’s MVP award.
  • Parlay Bets: A parlay is a series of bets on one bet slip, and to win the parlay, every leg must be a winner.
  • Point Spread: In this type of sports wagering, you are betting on the final score in relation to the team you picked. If you pick a 4-point favorite (-4) against the spread in the game, they have to win by more than 4 points to win the bet. If you pick a 4-point underdog (+4) against the spread, they have to either win or not lose by more than 4 points to win the bet. If the spread is a push and the game is decided by exactly 4 points, then the bet will usually be voided, and you get your wager back.
  • Total Points: You are betting over or under on the total combined points in the game.
  • Proposition Bets: A prop bet can be anything from a team prop to a game prop to a player prop. For an NBA game, prop bets can be an over/under on how many points one team will score in the game, which quarter is the highest scoring in the game, and you can bet over or under on various statistics (points, rebounds, assists, made threes, etc.) for individual player props. The most common props people bet on are the player props.
  • Round Robins: Not the easiest bet to explain in words, but a round robin is basically a series of parlays that gives you a better chance of hitting a win than a regular parlay does. For example, let’s say you have six bets on one bet slip. Normally, that would be a 6-leg parlay. But if you do a round robin with those 6 picks played as 3-leg parlays, then you will be placing a total of 20 bets, as every combination of 3 legs from those 6 picks will have its own wager. This is the most efficient way to play a series of things that are unlikely to all hit together, like first basket scorers in the NBA or touchdown scorer longshots in the NFL.
  • Teasers & Pleasers: A teaser is when you “tease” the spread or total in your favor, usually by a margin of 6 points in an NFL teaser. So, if the Chiefs were a 7-point favorite, a teaser would give you updated odds for Chiefs -1, an easier bet to win now. A pleaser is the opposite as it moves the bet the other way in favor of the sportsbook. A 6-point pleaser would make Chiefs -7 a Chiefs -13 bet, so now they would have to win by at least 14 points to win the bet. A teaser makes it easier to win but for less profit. A pleaser makes it harder to win but for more profit.

Are there professional sports teams in Kansas? That is the geographic debate we are about to get into, but there is no denying it is a state with famous college basketball programs.

It almost may be home to the best football team in the world right now, though state lines may disagree with that. One thing we know is Kansas sports fans take their professional teams and the adjacent football team very seriously, even if they technically belong to Missouri.

  • MLS: Sporting Kansas City
  • NCAA: University of Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State University Wildcats, Wichita State University Shockers

Main Kansas Sports Teams

America can be a strange place. Washington serves as both a state and the nation’s capital despite being located far apart. But then we have the case of there being a Kansas City, Kansas and a Kansas City, Missouri.

The Kansas City Chiefs are on top of the NFL world again after their second Super Bowl win in the Patrick Mahomes era, but they are technically a Missouri team. But since Arrowhead Stadium is located almost right at the border of Kansas, it is understandable why many in the Sunflower State embrace the team as their own.

Still, we are not going to list the Chiefs and the Royals below when they technically belong to Missouri bettors as their local teams instead. We will also point out that the Kansas Speedway is a nice oval track that hosts two annual NASCAR races.

  • Sporting Kansas City: The only only Major League Soccer team to play their home games in the state of Kansas.
  • Kansas State University Wildcats: The football team won the Big 12 Conference in 2022.
  • University of Kansas Jayhawks: The men’s basketball team is one of the most successful programs in the country with four NCCA tournament wins, including the 2022 championship.
  • Wichita State University Shockers: The men’s basketball team made it to the Final Four in 2013.

Important Features of the Best Online Sportsbooks

Earlier, we provided a list of the features we judge the best offshore sportsbooks by. In the following sections, we are going to review those different metrics and why they should be important to sportsbook users in Kansas.

Betting Odds Offered

You want a good sportsbook with competitive odds, and possibly even reduced juice lines like -105 or -108 instead of the traditional -110 and -115 lines. Some sportsbooks like BetOnline offer opinionated lines, and others like Heritage Sports and BetAnySports have reduced juice lines for a variety of leagues.

Variety of Betting Markets

While you can go to retail sportsbooks at a casino and make plenty of interesting bets these days, sports betting has never been easier and more fun when doing it online now. Just pick up your favorite mobile device and you can instantly start browsing different markets and building parlays however you’d like, with few restrictions on what these sportsbooks will accept.

You can bet on sides, totals, moneylines, various props, live betting markets, parlays, same-game parlays, multi-sport parlays, and more. We look for the most variety possible when it comes to what is allowed with parlays on these sportsbooks.

Payment and Withdrawal Methods

Few things are more important than having convenient deposit options and easy ways of withdrawing money from these online sportsbooks. Some people are limited to only a few methods that will work for them, so we always want to see the most options possible, including credit cards, debit cards, wire transfers, and crypto. We also make note of the minimum deposit and limits for each method, and if there is a fee associated with them.

Sports Betting Promotions & Bonuses

One thing arguably more important than payment methods are the bonuses, because everyone loves getting perks and bonus bets. These can come in a variety of ways, but the most common types are welcome bonuses and ongoing promotions for existing users.

New users will often be drawn in with a generous deposit bonus for the initial deposit they make after creating their account. Sometimes a bonus code is necessary to get this, but once those bonus bets run dry and you are still using the site, you want to see more sports betting promotions.

That is where the risk-free bets, enhanced odds on select markets, reload bonuses, and other perks like a free birthday parlay (available at Heritage Sports) come in handy to keep a user loyal to one sportsbook.

Live Betting & Streaming

With so many people accessing these online sportsbooks on their mobile devices, it is important to have a good interface for live betting. This way users can easily place bets on the go, or if they are on the couch watching the game live and betting, they should be able to follow along with the game on their phone with a visualization of the live action.

We know most sportsbooks do not have the broadcasting rights to live stream popular NFL and NBA game markets, but we do at least appreciate seeing live streaming for things like horse races and esports coverage. But streaming should be a big part of the future of online sports betting.

Overall User Experience

The overall user experience is important. Kansas players should feel safe when using these sites. They should be having fun placing bets and playing casino games, and they should be able to get a smooth experience with good software, an excellent interface and sharp graphics. Depositing money should be a breeze and getting your winnings in a timely fashion is also important to a great user experience.

Overall Mobile Experience

While Kansas users are getting used to downloading sportsbook apps on their mobile devices, these offshore sites do not have such downloadable apps. You will have to do your mobile sports betting using their mobile website. Fortunately, these top sports betting sites are optimized for mobile betting and have a slick user interface, making it feel like you are using an app anyway.

Customer Service Availability

Customer service needs to be available and helpful. A good score in this area would be for a site offering 24/7 support and with a variety of customer support options (messaging, email, phone, live chat, etc.).

Site’s Safety & Security Features

When you visit an online sports betting site and see that padlock icon in the URL bar, you can feel confident that you are on a secure connection with SSL encryption. These companies in our top 10 have many years of experience in the industry, and they should know how to keep our user data safe as we do have to share personal and financial info with these sites to use them. But you can be confident that they are secure to use or else they would not have a good reputation.

Signing Up with Online Sportsbooks

We are going to quickly walk you through the simple process of signing up with an online sportsbook. No matter which one you choose, this process should be roughly the same.

Step 1. Create an Account

Head to the site you want to join so you can create your account. You should find a button like “Join” or “Sign Up” and that is where you want to click to start entering your personal details like your username and to pick a good password for your account. There may also be a sportsbook promo code that you need to enter with your account to take advantage of a deal for new users.

Step 2. Verify Your Account

Verifying your account usually involves verifying your identity, so be sure to write out your full name and provide a working email address and phone number so the site can contact you.

Step 3. Make Your First Deposit

Make your initial deposit by funding your account with money using the deposit method you feel most comfortable with. This could be a credit card, a bank deposit, or something like crypto. Be sure to read the terms and conditions for any welcome bonuses that hinge on your first deposit amount, as you may want to deposit a certain amount so you can maximize the bonus funds from that offer.

Step 4. Place Your Chosen Wagers

Now that your account is verified and has money, you can start browsing the sports section to make your bets. Start with a simple single bet or go all out and build a parlay for the first time. Just remember to have fun and do not bet more than you are willing to lose.
