United States Football League Betting Lines & USFL Odds

The United States Football League, which is owned by FOX Sports, is a huge deal among football fans. Any football expert will insist that the USFL’s inaugural season in 2022 was successful by most barometers. Competitive games throughout the season coupled with an exciting game between the Birmingham Stallions and the Philadelphia Stars in the championship game gave the league a solid foundation as it moves into its second season.

Due to the USFL’s positive reviews in its debut season, we will see more and more sports betting sites offering betting odds on weekly USFL events. Many sites offer a USFL betting guide for those who are new to sports betting but learning to place a football bet on your favorite team is easy to do.

Betting sites in the U.S. are also including the USFL matches on their betting menus and although the league currently only consists of eight teams, the divisional games attract the most attention to the field.

The North Division features the following four teams:

  • Michigan Panthers
  • New Jersey Generals
  • Philadelphia Stars
  • Pittsburgh Maulers

The South Division is comprised of these four teams:

  • Birmingham Stallions
  • Houston Gamblers
  • New Orleans Breakers
  • Memphis Showboats (replacing the Tampa Bay Bandits from last season)

How to Read USFL Odds

Football odds are identical whether betting on the NFL, college football, or the USFL. The football teams may be different but the betting odds work the same in that there are point spreads, moneylines, totals and props on each game.

The favorite is indicated by a minus (-) sign before the point spread while the underdog is indicated by a plus (+) sign. For example:

  • New Jersey Generals +6
  • Birmingham Stallions -6

If the Stallions win by 7 points or more then they will cover the bet but if the Generals lose by less than 6 points or win outright then they will cover the bet. However, if the Stallions win the football game by exactly 6 points then the bet will be declared a push (tie) and all wagers will be returned to favorite and underdog bettors with no loss or profit.

The ratio of risk on a big moneyline favorite is higher than if that same team is bet using the point spread. Every professional sports bettor knows that betting risk must always be considered whether it be a routine regular season clash or a climactic game during the playoffs.

Championship odds are available on all teams before the season begins which are often referred to as betting futures. One bet will render a season’s worth of action which is why they are so popular with the sports betting community.

USFL Betting Markets Overview

Betting markets for the USFL are identical to the NFL or college football. Championship odds for the winner of the USFL title game work the same as betting on a team to win the Super Bowl in the NFL. The better the team, the smaller the title odds while the more of a longshot, the higher the odds.

There are point spreads, totals, props, and futures bets. But regardless of what team on which you are wagering, common football betting mistakes revolve around a lack of preparation and due diligence.

Whenever you make a sports bet, the best betting advice we can offer is to make sure to research the game, scour the injury reports, and analyze the historical matchups between the teams. Passing and rushing yards per game for each team’s offense are important factors but so too are the respective defenses.

Football betting types like wagering on straight games with simple spread picks as opposed to parlays that could include moneylines, point spreads, and totals are the most popular. This is also the best chance for football bettors to make money as only one wager must cover for it to win.

There are many regular-season games, therefore, the volume of picks you can make is plentiful. However, more is not necessarily better when it comes to sports betting. Keep the number of your bets to a minimum and only choose those games in which you are confident.

Remember, football betting sites offer a vast array of player and team props but this does not mean you need to bet on everything. The most common bets are popular for a reason and those are on individual teams.

Betting odds on a balanced matchup between two similarly talented teams could mean there is no favorite or underdog and the game is a pick’em. However, many bettors like wagering on the biggest underdog on the board. Those matchups that are anticipated to be close, high-scoring games favor the underdog and betting over the posted total.

Placing USFL Wagers - Getting Started

If you want to place a wager on the USFL, then you'll need to know where to go. You will find no shortage of online betting sites but one thing you must be aware of is that many of them are predatory entities whose only mission is to separate you from your money. These nefarious online sportsbooks make it very easy to deposit but impossible to receive your winnings when a payout is requested. It doesn't work very well as a business model either, as bettors are less likely to place future bets with an unreliable sportsbook.

If you want to bet on the hottest teams at safe, reputable, sites with proven track records of paying customers in a prompt, timely manner then look no further than the sports betting industry leaders like Bookmaker, BetOnline, Bovada, and Heritage Sports. You're almost certain to find your next favorite sportsbook if you go with one of these providers.

Frequently Asked Questions About United States Football League Odds

Is the USFL the only minor league football organization in the United States?

The true minor league of the world’s top league, the NFL, is actually the stars of tomorrow that can be found playing at the elite levels of college football. However, the USFL can be a conduit to the NFL just like other "minor" football leagues like the XFL and the recently defunct Alliance of American Football.

When can I start betting on USFL matches?

Week 1 of the entire season of USFL action begins on April 15th, 2023 but many of the major online sportsbooks will be posting USFL futures odds and Week 1 odds several days or weeks before that date.

When is the USFL Championship game?

Sunday, July 2, 2023, is the scheduled date of the USFL Championship game.

Where can I watch the USFL?

YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and several other FOX/NBC streaming options are available to watch the regular season and playoff games. The playoff games and the championship game will likely be back on FOX.

Why do USFL odds and betting lines change?

Betting odds change because of the amount of money being bet on one side or another. The more money bet on the favorite, the higher the point spread (or line) will climb to attract betting on the other side – the underdog – while the reverse also holds true.
