Pretty smart marketing ploy by Ohtani and his agent to make it seem like he's going to Toronto only to drive his price up. I think he winds up in LA. I don't want him to because I hate the Dodgers but the glitz and glamour of playing in LA seem like it'll be the destination for Ohtani.

I still feel he wants to sign with the Dodgers or the Giants. He is just waiting for the right offer.
I would love my Giants to sign Ohtani but I'm not holding my breath because the Giants always say they're interested in a big name free agent but they never sign one because someone else outbids them or the signing falls apart. I'll believe it when I'll see it but the Giants haven't signed anyone this big since Barry Bonds came to the bay in the offseason of 1992.

The Giants are targeting either Ohtani or Yamamoto. If not Ohtani, maybe Yamamoto? It will be a lot cheaper than Otani, even though he will still cost a lot of money too.

Maybe they'll get him instead. They definitely need to do something this offseason to excite the fanbase. I guess getting rid of Kapler was a start but they need to bring in a big free agent signing or else it will be the same old story with the Giants.

If only they can have both.

We'll look forward to this and good luck on your team, Jr!

I would be shocked if he doesn't go to the Dodgers. Big money to spend. Big market. Closest to Japan to draw that audience and tourists. Lots of +'s vs Toronto.

Does Ohtani know it snows in Toronto??? :ROFLMAO:

Its big not close to LA. LA is 3.5X the market of Toronto.
Also, a lot more media in LA = more press and public view.

6,188,463 Philadelphia Phillies
5,819,100 Boston Red Sox
5,456,428 Detroit Tigers

But it also is the only Canadian market in the league

And also has a very strong Japanese population

In this day and age market size doesn’t matter as long as it’s not a small market

Toronto also a very big market
I live in Toronto, it's nothing compared to any of the major cities in the US. Even Sydney, Australia is a better city than T.O. imo. The only draw Toronto has is that it's a multicultural city and Ohtani might feel more comfortable socially... don't think he's a fan of Winter, so I think it's highly likely he signs with LA.

IMO, he's using Toronto to get a better deal out of Dodgers or Angels.

He doesn’t have to live there in winter if he doesn’t like it. But I’m pretty sure he grew up in very similar climate to Toronto

I don’t think the gap in market size is something that really matters now. Toronto is not LA, but it is certainly “big enough.”
