After several surprises throughout the week one thing is certain, we’ll have a new ASB Classic champion. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixture below and lists the best available odds from Green Listed Bookmakers.
Goerges vs. Konjuh
Two powerful players will face each other this Friday with a place in the final at stake – Julia Goerges and Ana Konjuh.
Goerges is just one win away from returning to the ASB Classic final. The 2016 runner-up featured a phenomenal comeback in her quarter-finals contest against the main favourite, Caroline Wozniacki. After losing 9 of the first 10 games, Julia recovered from a 1 – 6 0 – 3 disadvantage to emerge victorious by 1 – 6 6 – 3 6 – 4. Goerges’ serve was one of the main keys to her comeback. Since the 4th game of the 2nd set, Julia won 69.57% of the points played on her serve.
Known as one of the most promising young players on the WTA Tour, Konjuh already secured a place in the top 40 next – her career high ranking. The former junior world no.1 is a fearful player due to her tremendous firepower; however, it’s not easy for Ana to perform at a consistent level. Looking now to Konjuh’s numbers throughout the week, the highlight clearly goes to her powerful serve with the Croat winning 90.90% of her service games.
This will be the 2nd career meeting between these two players with Goerges winning their previous meeting two years ago in Wuhan by 3 – 6 6 – 4 6 – 4.
As we mentioned before, both players are famous for their powerful game. Even though they can produce a terrific level of tennis, it’s not easy for any of them to do that in a consistent manner. Their previous result is a good example of that with the bookmakers well aware of that situation, pricing Goerges as the slight favourite at 4/5 at BetVictor while William Hill offers 11/10 for Konjuh’s victory. With this in mind, our recommendation is for you to take the Over 21 at 43/50 at Pinnacle in this very close affair.
