Speaking at the international summit on remote gambling regulation, British Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said foreign governments have expressed interest into how the commission works as they are considering bringing in similar bodies in their own countries.
But while the UK Government seem to think that by promoting Britain\’s new regulatory regime as the progressive alternative to US prohibition will be enough to lure foreign online gambling companies to the UK, industry observers said take-up of the new licenses among offshore-based internet gambling operators will be limited without significant tax concessions.
“Secondary licences are something the industry will look at, but only after the issue of taxation is cleared up,” said John Shepherd of PartyGaming.
