As reported by Bookmakers Review on September 30, the online bookmaker MiApuesta.com has been accused of fraud, tax evasion, foreign exchange violations and money laundering by the Argentine Union of Gaming Employees, and now the Argentine Government will try to stop its citizens from gambling online.

MiApuesta.com, which unlike other online bookmakers does not refuse to take bets from jurisdictions where internet gambling is illegal, is using Argentine soccer fixtures without permission and in direct competition with a local soccer betting game.

Under Argentine laws, only the National Lottery is authorized to accept bets on Argentine soccer.

The Argentine Union of Gaming Employees (ALEARA) pointed out that MiApuesta.com does not pay taxes, to the detriment of local sporting projects supported by the regulated land-based operations, calling for the immediate removal of all advertising for the online company in the national press.

ALEARA has also demanded to remove links to the website, but it remains unlikely to succeed as MiApuesta.com, which is part of the Sportingbet group, operates under a UK license.
