A Bookmakers Review punter recently detailed a complaint against a betting site that insisted he provide a physical copy of a banking statement by post.
The punter became outraged indicating that he had already provided an electronic copy of his online banking account, and asked why it was really necessary as he does not subscribe to paper banking mail.
The reason is that electronic copies of screen captures are much easier to forge than legitimate paperwork from institutions, especially as most of the time such paperwork is notarized as being genuine. It is much more difficult to forge such paperwork, especially when it can be compared to other individuals who use the same institution.
While it can be inconvenient to satisfy this request to produce a hard copy of a financial statement, it is ultimately a justifiable request on the part of bookmakers, whether the bookmaker happens to be on the green list or not.
