Representatives Bob Goodlatte and Jim Leach have merged their proposed legislations into a single bill named the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act. The bill, expected to be debated by the full US House of Representatives next week, would amend the Interstate Wire Act to specifically prohibit internet gambling as well as require financial institutions to block financial transactions to and a from internet gambling sites.

This week the New York Times reported that several interest groups were flocking to Capitol Hill to lobby for or against internet gambling.

According to eGaming Review, a survey of the companies included in the 2006 Power 50 revealed that more than half the respondents believe it will take five years or more for the US to fully regulate and legalize internet gambling, while another 14% believe the US will not regulate in their lifetimes.

eGaming Review also reported that some major betting companies, including PartyGaming, Ladbrokes, Sportingbet, 888, CryptoLogic and Carmen Media, have met in Gibraltar and have agreed to move towards reporting consistent definitions, terminology and basis of calculation of four primary KPIs such as cost per acquisition, real money sign-up, unique active player and yield per unique active player.
