Jane O\’Rourke, chairman of the Isle of Man Gambling Control Commissioners, described the situation in the UK as “very fluid and unclear.”
“I don\’t believe that what was trailed as a massive deregulation of the gaming industry is going to happen. Much of the work they hope to accomplish is to catch up with the Isle of Man,” she said.
Ms O\’Rourke said it was difficult to say what impact the new gambling legislation due to be introduced in the UK would have on the Isle of Man\’s competitiveness in the online gaming arena.
The Isle of Man is one of the few jurisdictions to have introduced a dedicated online gambling legislation. The legislation came into effect in May 2001.
