UNiTAB CEO Dick McIlwain said it would be “no big deal” to get betting exchange technology, but he insisted that to operate one pre-conditions would have to apply, including “acceptance by Australian racing authorities of betting exchanges.”

McIlwain, which acknowledged that if UNiTAB was to operate a betting exchange it would be in unison with its present operation, said it\’s unlikely that Australian racing authorities will accept betting exchanges.

In separate news, Centrebet said it expects to meet its forecasts for the 2005-06 financial year. The Australian sportsbook has experienced a record month in June with more than 5900 new customers, while overall betting turnover was in line with the firm\’s estimates.

Centrebet\’s Con Kafataris commented on the deal between Betfair and Racing Victoria saying he believes “it will have little impact on Australia\’s major corporate bookmakers.” Sportingbet Australia\’s Michael Sullivan said the biggest turning point for Betfair was when it was granted a license in Tasmania, not the latest deal with RVL. Sullivan also admitted Betfair had not hurt Sportingbet\’s business in Australia.
