The Advertising Standards Authority has ordered print advertisements for ThePool.com to be withdrawn with immediate effect. The ASA is investigating a complaint from a member of the public that the ads targeted 16- and 17-year-olds.

ThePool.com\’s leaflets used images of scantily-clad girls and the phrase: “Why wait ‘til 18? Bet at 16”.

Although pool gambling is legal for over 16s, the advertising code prohibits gambling ads being directed at people under 18.

“We concluded that, because it specifically targeted young people including those aged 16 and 17 and used a style, presentation and content that was likely to have widespread youth appeal, the campaign was socially irresponsible,” said the advertising watchdog in a statement.
