According to police documents, WSOP poker star Richard Lee is allegedly the “biggest bookie” in San Antonio and an agent for www.betbsbnow.com, a Costa Rica-based online sportsbook.
The police investigation, which started in February after an anonymous tip-off, uncovered multiple bank accounts belonging to Lee and found that the poker star had received a large number of substantial cash deposits and written numerous checks with the words “Gamb Loss” on the memo line.
Lee has denied any involvement with sports bookmaking.
In separate news, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said he will support legislation to ban internet gambling. “Most people don\’t know that online gambling is illegal, which makes it our responsibility to act,” said Frist at the field hearing in Iowa organized by Jim Leach, sponsor of the legislation to ban online gambling.
