However, the Serbian can never be underestimated due to her undeniable quality and outstanding two-handed backhand. In addition, this is already Jankovic’s 3rd tournament in 2017 on this surface.
The 2016 Mutua Madrid Open runner-up – Dominika Cibulkova – makes her debut on red clay this season in Madrid. Despite her incredible campaign in 2016, Cibulkova hasn’t lived up to expectations this year. Adding to this, the last weeks haven’t been easy for the Slovak with Dominika unable to help her country on the Fed Cup World Group Play-Offs due to an arm injury.
These two players know each other very well with their first encounter taking place in 2008. Despite Jankovic’s 3 – 2 lead on the h2h, Cibulkova won their previous encounter two years ago in Beijing.
