The first round comes to an end this Thursday on the women’s competition while the men’s make their debut on the main draw. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.
ATP Indian Wells – Dzumhur vs. Harrison
At the age of 24, one of America’s most promising players in recent years – Ryan Harrison – is finally living up to the expectations. After winning his first title on the ATP World Tour a couple weeks ago in Memphis, Harrison is looking for another successful campaign on American soil. The high bouncing conditions in Indian Wells clearly suit Ryan’s game style with the world no.45 holding a remarkable 13 – 7 career record on this event. In fact, Harrison never lost a match in Indian Wells when priced as favourite with a phenomenal 9 – 0 record on that price range.
Damir Dzumhur shocked the world two weeks ago in Dubai with a historical victory over the three-time Grand Slam champion – Stan Wawrinka. Even though Damir is known as a clay court expert, the player from Bosnia and Herzegovina clearly improved his game on Hard Court in recent months. This is Dzumhur’s 4th consecutive apperance in Indian Wells with Damir still looking for his first triumph on this event.
This will be the 2nd career meeting between these two players with Harrison emerging victorious from their previous encounters earlier this year in Memphis by 6 – 3 6 – 4.
Despite Dzumhur’s recent improvements, there’s still a big gap between him and Harrison on Hard Court. Adding to this, Ryan holds a phenomenal record on this event as we mentioned before. Having said that, Harrison deserves to be the undeniable favourite for this encounter with the American available at 43/100 at Pinnacle while 5Dimes offers 2/1 for Dzumhur’s victory.
WTA Indian Wells – Siniakova vs. Barthel
After an incredible start to 2017 for Katerina Siniakova with her first career title in Shenzhen, the following weeks haven’t been easy for the Czech with only one victory in four matches. Known for her aggressive baseline game and terrific defensive skills, Siniakova is always a tough opponent to beat. This is Katerina’s third consecutive appearance on this event main draw with the world no.42 trying to reach the 2nd round in Indian Wells for the second time in her career.
Famous for her tremendous talent, Mona Barthel is slowly returning to her best level after struggling with several physical problems in recent years. Mona featured a remarkable run earlier this year in Melbourne, losing only in the 4th round against Venus Williams after playing the qualifying stage due to her low ranking. Once again, Barthel had to play the qualifying in Indian Wells with the German reaching the main draw after two straight set victories against Maria Sanchez and Evgeniya Rodina.
Due to the unique game conditions in the Californian desert, playing the qualifying stage can be a huge advantage. Even though Siniakova is a terrific competitor, it won’t be easy for her to overcome such a talented player as Barthel. With this in mind, Mona is the right play on this match with Pinnacle offering 93/100 for the German’s victory while Siniakova is available at 1/1 at Bet365.
