The Internet Gambling Prohibition Act sponsored by Rep. Bob Goodlatte and approved by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday contained an exemption that allows the United States horse racing industry to continue to conduct internet wagering as established by the Interstate Horseracing Act in 2000.
“Today was excellent news for the racing industry,” said Greg Avioli, Executive Vice President of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.
“For the horse racing industry, this is particularly important because having that exception allows horse racing to continue to operate interstate simulcasting and account wagering.”
“If that bill would have passed without the exception in it, it would have effectively outlawed those activities.”
