The introduction of a new legislation regulating gambling advertising, which does not list internet as a permitted advertising mean, has raised several controversies in the booming Russian market.
According to Henry Karpov, attorney at a local law firm, “there is room for doubt in the law.”
“It has not mentioned the internet as a medium which suggests that area remains unlegislated for and unaffected by this bill. Russia law does not usually work in such a way as to include all unwritten scenarios by default,” he said.
This ambiguity has led Yandex’s main rival, Rambler, to continue accepting gambling ads.
