The Racing and Gambling Acts (Amendment) Bill will give Racing Victoria the ability to earn revenue from betting companies looking to publish Victorian thoroughbred race fields.
The amended legislation will replace the copyright value of the race fields, with a more valuable permission granting regime, where those publishing the information without the permission of Racing Victoria will be guilty of committing a criminal offence.
Racing Victoria\’s main aim is to use the legislation to prevent Betfair from operating on Victorian races, but it will be difficult as the betting exchange has made it clear to be prepared to pay a product fee.
