Already under investigation for betting under a false name, Stephen Allanson resigned after a further 37 bets with rails bookmaker Rod Cleary were discovered, adding to the five bets Allanson already admitted to have placed on the Spring Carnival.

“I have always put the interest of the industry above my own and therefore I have decided that I must do so again and with great sadness leave RVL,” said Allanson.

“I understand RVL chief executive Stephen Allanson has resigned following this week’s revelations. It is the right decision,” commented Racing Minister Rob Hulls. “Integrity underpins the great racing industry in Victoria and it’s important nothing is done or even perceived to have been done that might undermine that integrity.”
