A study commissioned by the Poker Players Alliance revealed that the US government could make more than $3 billion in federal and state taxes if internet poker was properly regulated in the United States. Income taxes on winnings would amount to nearly $2.5 billion, while a 1 per cent user fee on online poker transactions would generate up to another $1 billion in revenue for the US Government.
In separate news, the publisher of Casino Player and Strictly Slots cancelled all subscriptions to Washington State, after that the state said that writing about internet gambling is “aiding and abetting” an illegal industry. It remains unclear whether the publisher cancelled the subscriptions on his own or was asked to by the state.
Elsewhere, 160 representatives from the land-based and online poker industries attended the inaugural World Poker Congress in Stockholm on June 27-28, learning the commonalities between the two industries and the potential for further convergence.
