UK bookmakers celebrated the Grand National winner as he reportedly saved them a fortune in defeating joint favourites Hedgehunter and Clan Royal.
Bets on this year\’s John Smith\’s Grand National topped £250 million, with £1m a minute being placed in the hour before the big race industry-wide.
“We were staring down the barrel of a gun when Hedgehunter and Clan Royal hit the front, with a win for either costing us millions. However, the Gods were smiling on us today, as Numbersixvalverde came to our rescue,” said Coral Eurobet\’s David Stevens.
“When Hedgehunter and Clan Royal rode to the front, our hearts were in our mouths. We were praying the pair would get beaten and fortunately six was our lucky number,” said Ladbrokes\’ David Williams.
“The winner has saved us from a payout queue longer than Hadrian\’s Wall,” said William Hill\’s David Hood.
