Senators voted 44-3, after a brief debate, defeating the bill that would have allowed North Dakota to regulate online poker becoming a licensing jurisdiction.
Earlier last week, the Department of Justice sent a warning letter to Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem stating that the internet poker bill would have contravened the federal Wire Act, the Travel Act and the Anti-Gambling Act.
The letter likely influenced the vote of many senators, despite the testimony from many egaming industry representatives claimed that regulating online poker in North Dakota would not violate any federal laws.
