The British capital will become the first city to stage the Olympics for a third time after overhauling long-standing favourites Paris.
The London\’s win to host the 2012 Olympics cost UK bookmakers over £1 million nationwide, but could lead to a betting bonanza.
“In the long term a London games is great for the industry – there\’s no doubt our business will benefit from the games,” said a Ladbrokes spokesman.
“In 2004 Britain\’s bookies took more than £10 million in bets on the Athens Olympics. It is safe to say that London in 2012 will become a betting bonanza and we expect up to a ten-fold increase which means punters may well gamble a £100 million,” said a colleague from William Hill.
