Acccording to Plusminus, a German television program, several Bundesliga players, including one national team member, are involved in match-fixing and they often place bets against their own teams.
“At the moment we can\’t say whether there is something to it or not,” commented a spokesman for the Munich Prosecutor\’s Office. “We are collecting information before deciding whether to open preliminary proceedings.”
Franz Beckenbauer, President of the World Cup organizing committee, said that although he could not believe that a national team player was involved, “things like these always have a destructive effect” and would damage the image of German soccer.
