According to industry experts, the most likely target is 888, which would add casino gaming to Ladbrokes\’ established online poker operation.

“It would be unusual if we were not to look at opportunities in the sector. We are monitoring the situation,” a spokesman for the UK bookmaker told the Sunday Telegraph.

Other industry observers suggest that other online betting firms are looking at ways to consolidate their businesses, including online sportsbooks Sportingbet and Bwin.

Elsewhere, Tjeerd Veenstra, De Lotto Director, believes that Ladbrokes is not very well informed in the Dutch court procedures. John O\’Reilly, Ladbrokes Managing Director of eGaming, recently said he was going to take to the Dutch Supreme Court the case against an injunction which prevents the bookmaker from accepting online bets from Dutch citizens.

The Dutch Supreme Court already ruled against Ladbrokes in February 2005, when it said the UK bookmaker was not permitted to offer its services via the internet in the Netherlands, upholding an earlier decision of the District Court of Arhem.
