According to The Jakarta Post, the Batam city police arrested four people suspected of running a website that offered online betting.

According to police, bettors registered with the website and then transferred money to a specified bank account, before being allowed to place bets, ranging from a minimum of $10 to $1000s, on televised soccer matches.

“This is the first case of gambling over the Internet uncovered in Batam. They (the gamblers) have turned to modern technology since the police began closing traditional gambling dens,” said Batam city police Chief Eko Hadi Sutedjo.
