While parent company Rank said it expects 2008 to be a challenging year and announced the sale of its pension plan to Goldman Sachs, Blue Square announced an increase in revenue by 32.9% to £52.1m in 2007, with operating profit up 39.7% to £10.9m and active membership increased by 12.6% to more than 321,000.

Growth was driven entirely by bingo and games, with total gaming revenue up 60% to £36.9m, while the sports betting business had a difficult year, with revenue slipping 6.2% to £15.2m.

Blue Square confirmed that it will soon begin offering multi-lingual, multi-currency sports betting services to customers of 888.com, under the white label agreement signed at the end of 2007.
