Starting at this year\’s World Cup, FIFA will have its own company to watch for suspect betting trends at all international competitions.
FIFA Early Warning System GmbH was created in January 2006 following the Robert Hoyzer match-fixing scandal.
The company will work in partnership with the betting industry to spot attempts to manipulate games.
“This company will be monitoring unusual betting in all competitions,” said Urs Linsi, FIFA General Secretary.
“I think we\’ve taken the necessary steps (to prevent match-fixing). And this is not just for the World Cup.”
