The Turkish Government had recently formed a team, consisting of specialists from the Ministries of Justice and Treasury, to find solutions to prevent online gambling, but was not able to issue any legal directives against the gambling sites as they are hosted outside Turkey.
However, after the Justice and Development Party deputy Ertugrul Yalcinbayir submitted a motion for question to the Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu, Turkish officials contacted the hosters of thirty gambling sites which are available for Turkish people and demanded the sites not be made available online in Turkey.
