Costa Rican legislators agreed to specify a special flat tax rate for sportsbooks, depending on the number of employees.

Sportsbooks with up to 20 employees would pay $26,000. Those with 21 to 60 employees would pay $32,000. Sportsbooks with 61 employees or more would pay $48,000.

The motion, if finalized with the tax plan, would also allow sportsbook companies to open checking accounts in Costa Rica, something they could not do now.

According to A.M. Costa Rica, there are over 200 sportsbooks operating in the country and employing 5,000 to 7,000 people.
