Costa Rica Vice President and Minister of Justice Laura Chinchilla might agree to extradite the founder of BetonSports under the condition that the charges he will ultimately be tried for back in the US are determined in the extradition court in Costa Rica.
According to Moises Vinzenzi, one of Costa Rica\’s top criminal defense attorneys, Gary Kaplan, who is wanted by US federal authorities on 22 counts of racketeering, fraud, tax evasion and unlawful gambling activities, cannot be extradited on gambling charges. “The only charge that he could be incriminated on is tax evasion,” Vinzenzi told the NY Post.
While Costa Rican immigrations officials have no record of Kaplan leaving Costa Rica, some reports indicate that he is in Israel.
