Permit wagering on sporting events in all 50 states? Americans who want to legally bet on sporting events can do so in Las Vegas. Gamblers can also place sports bets on Internet sites run from outside the United States.  A recent study by a professor in North Carolina concludes that casinos could reap $190 billion a year in sports bets if they were allowed to legally plunge into Internet gambling.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says he’ll start a hedge fund, run by professional gamblers, to make bets on sporting events.

Atlantic City, N.J., has launched a major expansion and hopes to use legalized sports betting to put distance between itself and other casinos and elevate it to a Las Vegas-caliber destination.
