According to Ladbrokes, over 5 million pounds have been bet on this year\’s Big Brother. “This series of Big Brother has smashed all records. Despite the outcry over a number of the show\’s stunts, punters have kept the faith,” commented Nick Weinberg of Ladbrokes.
In separate news last week, Galway bookmakers reported record bets at Ireland\’s Galway Race Festival. On-course bookmakers took EUR 21 million during the seven days, an increase of 16 per cent on last year\’s festival. Paddy Power told the Galway Independent that turnover was “through the roof,” while Galway based Mullhollands Bookmakers reported an increase of takings of between 13 and 15 per cent. The Tote was the only bookmaker to report a decrease in turnover, as its takings were down EUR 200,000 from the EUR 7.7 million taken at last year\’s event.
