Former flat jockey Gary Carter has been banned for five years, while high-roller Chris Coleman and four other punters have been banned for life from racecourses.
Carter passed Coleman information about his rides in eight races at various racecourses held between August and September 2003. The big-time punter heavily backed the horses to lose through 5 accounts at Betfair, netting over £80,000 in the betting scam.
The Jockey Club said Carter did not ride to achieve the best possible result.
Betfair completely supported and endorsed the investigation providing full access to its comprehensive audit trail.
In a separate inquiry about an alleged £10million race fixing scam involving bribes for jockeys in 90 races, twenty people, including jockeys and trainers, began answering bail on October 3 in a process scheduled to continue for the next three weeks.
