Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff along with 28 other attorneys general have signed a letter urging the US Government to protect the legal rights of states, to ban or regulate forms of gambling, from actions by the World Trade Organization.
Shurtleff fears the WTO could erode state powers to regulate gambling in states such as Utah and Hawaii, where gambling in all forms is illegal.
The WTO ruling in the case brought by Antigua against the USA did not change gambling laws, however it opened a door for internet gambling operators by finding fault with a federal law regulating interstate betting on horse races.
