According to the Spanish Internet Bettors Association (Asociación Española de Apostadores por Internet), sports bets represented the 35.8% of the total, followed by casinos (25.1%), poker (20.3%) and lotteries (15.2%). Soccer and tennis were the most popular sports among the over half million of Spaniards who have bet on the internet during 2005.
Elsewhere, the Prague Monitor revealed that each Czech will spend almost CZK 10,000 on betting this year, up from CZK 9,000 in 2005 and CZK 6,000 in 2000.
Although internet betting is still illegal in the Czech Republic, the popularity of online bookmakers and casinos continues to increase, with four percent of Czechs currently betting on the internet and another 12 percent contemplating the option (data from the International Business and Research Services agency).
In 2005, Czechs spent CZK 4 billion on internet bets with foreign companies and over CZK 90 billion with local betting firms.
