Aged 31, he’s now 6-6 in the UFC and has alternated wins and losses for six years. We have a fighter who comes out and flatlines Beneil Dariush but then struggles versus an aging Donald Cerrone. We’re not likely to see many fight-to-fight improvements, and he cannot be trusted as an outright wager.

Jackson: The Story So Far
Damon Jackson is a submission specialist who heavily relied on his BJJ skill set throughout his 29-fight career. At 35, we’ve seen the best of his prime, and with a current two-fight losing streak on his record ahead of Saturday’s Vegas event, he’ll be desperate for victory to avoid being placed on the ‘fighters to cut’ list.

Training out of factory Muay Thai, Hernandez is actually in very good hands. He’s a proven finisher with incredible power, but cardio has often been a hill he’s struggled to climb. He has all the skills on paper and boasts a diverse skill set, but something is missing from his game, and it could very well be confidence.
Without an opponent who he can muscle to the ground, Jackson has notably struggled. He’s incredibly skilled on the mat; 15 submissions and a BJJ black belt speak for themselves. He’s a scrappy dude and is undoubtedly a dog we cannot overlook.

In twenty-nine professional MMA contests, Jackson has gone the distance in just four of those bouts. He’s 5-4 in the UFC, and six of those contests ended via KO/TKO or submission. For Hernandez, 67% of his losses ended inside the distance, and 50% of his victories were obtained via KO/TKO.
While the numbers don’t tell the entire story, how can we ignore -190 on this fight ending inside the distance? As mentioned, Jackson is a dog, but he leaves himself open to be countered. Court McGee, one year shy of turning 40, is way beyond his prime fighting years, and Saturday night could well be his final fight for the promotion. He’ll go down as an OG of the sport, but his body has endured countless wars, and a two-fight, round-one knockout losing streak points toward a fighter on a serious decline.

Morono: The Story So Far
Eighteen fights into an eight-year UFC career, Alex Morono owns a respectable record of 12-6 for the promotion and is undeniably a gatekeeper in the welterweight division.
Morono’s losses over the previous four years have come against seriously tough competitors who can cause damage. Still, McGee isn’t that guy, which is likely why he’s a juiced favorite heading into UFC Vegas 90.

UFC Vegas 90 McGee vs. Morono: Skillset Breakdown
McGee is 2-5 in his previous seven fights, and those two lone victories were against fighters boasting terrible cardio and simplistic skill sets. Most of his career wins were based on the heart, pressure, and durability he brings to the octagon. Unfortunately, the latter is beginning to disintegrate, and Morono doesn’t fall into any of the two previously mentioned downsides.
Morono is a great striker, and his skill set is well-versed overall. The crucial difference-maker for him on Saturday will be his speed factor. To defeat him, opponents need to cause damage and make him wilt, but if Joaquin Buckley struggled to accomplish this across three rounds, how do we expect a 39-year-old McGee to achieve this?
Morono Moneyline Reasoning
The available UFC odds favor Morono, and rightfully so. Speed, power, and durability will heavily side with him, and while we shouldn’t expect a top-10-ranked run, McGee is a very winnable fight.
Back-to-back knockout losses in round one for McGee are telling of where he’s at during the latter stages of his career. I do believe that Morono is undoubtedly a less concerning opponent when compared to the likes of Jeremiah Wells and his brute force, but seeing him fold to an equally as old Matt Brown shouldn’t give you much hope on his chances this weekend.
