Rani Yahya vs. Victor Henry

UFC Vegas 91 Bantamweight Bout

Yahya: The Story So Far

With 20 UFC bouts in the bag stemming from 13 years of experience in the promotion, Brazil’s Rani Yahya has managed to collect a 13-5-1-1 record for the company despite owning just one noteworthy skill set. He’s a Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace and, as a pro combatant, has managed to secure 21 wins by submission thanks to his black belt credentials.

However, at age 39 and with over a year of layoff, he returns at the tail-end of his career, with only one win in the UFC versus a competitor who is still an active roster member.

  • Yahya Pro MMA Record: 28-11-1
  • Yahya Knockout Wins: 0
  • Yahya Submission Wins: 21

Henry: The Story So Far

Former Rizin standout Victor Henry was thrown into the fire upon his arrival at the UFC in 2022. Despite this, he tackled a savvy veteran in Raoni Barcelos. While he couldn’t replicate this in his second outing against Raphael Assuncao, he’s remained active, has lost just 1 of his 4 UFC bouts to date, and will enter this weekend’s fight card as the second-biggest betting favorite from all 13 scheduled contests.

  • Henry Pro MMA Record: 23-6-0
  • Henry Knockout Wins: 6
  • Henry Submission Wins: 8

UFC Vegas 91 Yahya vs. Henry: Skillset Breakdown

A deep and thorough analysis of Yahya’s UFC career isn’t necessary, as his gameplan is quite simple…BJJ or bust. Unfortunately, his desperation and need for submission victories can often cause many in-cage decisions that modern-day MMA athletes aren’t going to falter to.

Pulling guard, accepting takedowns, and playing from his back too often have been a core component during Yahya’s five UFC defeats. More worryingly, his offensive and defensive striking has never evolved; it’s almost like he’s never spent a day hitting pads in his entire life and has no problem relying on his BJJ.

Henry Moneyline Reasoning

Henry isn’t the most technically sound striker in the division, but he’ll look like prime Anderson Silva during stand-up exchanges with Yahya. His top game is strong and smart enough to avoid Yahya’s tricky submissions, which is all he’ll need to walk out of Sin City with his hand raised.

Henry is a savvy veteran who’s been actively competing versus an elite level of opposition, whereas Yahya has just one win over an active UFC fighter. The submission threat with Yahya is always present, but skill-for-skill, he’s completely outmatched in all areas outside the BJJ.

Austin Hubbard vs. Michal Figlak

UFC Vegas 91 Lightweight Bout

Hubbard: The Story So Far

Austin Hubbard has been entangled in a tumultuous career thus far. He initially reached the UFC in 2019, but a consecutive streak of wins and losses saw him cut from the company. during the 2023 TUF competition, he earned his position back on the roster.

  • Hubbard Pro MMA Record: 15-7-0
  • Hubbard Knockout Wins: 5
  • Hubbard Submission Wins: 5

Figlak: The Story So Far

Michal Figlak entered the UFC in 2022 after putting on countless striking masterclasses in the Cage Warriors promotion. There was a level of hype prior to his UFC debut, but unfortunately, whether it was octagon jitters or too much too soon, the 27-year-old faltered and lost his buzz in a decision defeat to Fares Ziam.

  • Figlak Pro MMA Record: 10-0-0
  • Figlak Knockout Wins: 5
  • Figlak Submission Wins: 5

UFC Vegas 91 Hubbard vs. Figlak: Skillset Breakdown

I believe the MMA community, as a whole, is still waiting for Figlak’s coming-out party. He owns a complete skill set with excellent cardio and durability and is offensively sound in all facets of the game. With consistent combinations, forward pressure, high volume, and a noteworthy fight IQ for a young fighter, he’s a fighter who has the potential to reach the top-15 rankings of this division.

Hubbard doesn’t excel in one area of MMA, but his takedown game is undoubtedly underrated. Without watching the tape, you realize this just by looking at his takedown statistics, and this weekend is certainly the most viable path to victory for him.

Figlak Moneyline Reasoning

After a 16-month layoff, aged 27, we could see the best of Figlak we’ve witnessed to date. However, this moneyline position isn’t strictly based on hope; this kid is pretty damn good. Rewatch his Cage Warriors bouts, and you’ll instantly be impressed. While Hubbard isn’t a pushover, he isn’t going to be an improved fighter with new skills during this stage of his career, and I don’t believe he has the cardio or top control to prevent Figlak from out-pointing him on the feet.
