Martial arts have been at the forefront of Natan Levy’s life since his early teens. After several years of training in kung fu and karate, receiving a black belt in both disciplines, and opening his own karate school – all before age 22 – he opted to take his skills and compete in mixed martial arts.
For the previous nine years, Levy has transitioned his base skills into MMA. Following five years of amateur and professional competition, an unbeaten record and a win on Dana White’s Contender Series saw him reach the big leagues.
Following a debut decision loss to Rafa Garcia, Levy has bounced back with two consecutive wins. During those contests, his karate stance with lineal movement and precise striking has been on display, but we’ve also witnessed a level of offensive wrestling that rounds off his skillset very well.
Natan Levy vs. Pete Rodriguez: The Fight Tape
Before reaching the UFC, Pete Rodriguez fought an incredibly low level of competition but had notably won all his bouts via first-round KO/TKO. When stepping into the octagon for the first time, he was completely outclassed by Jack Della Maddalena, stopped via KO within 3 minutes, and displayed the green side of his MMA tenure.
A return fight for Rodriguez still couldn’t teach us much, as he fought a 1-1-0 Mike Jackson, who’d been ushered onto the roster strictly to face CM Punk. Rodriguez’s round-one victories versus weak opposition continued, and we’re still unsure if he can survive beyond 5 minutes or compete against noteworthy grapplers.
Based on Levy’s offensive wrestling alone, we must favor him in this bout. Rodriguez may have the punching power, but Levy’s long-range, unorthodox karate style won’t allow his opponent to brawl.
Natan Levy Point Spread (-190): Hot Prospect Best Bet
The available UFC odds opened Levy as a -272, and the price has slightly dropped to -225. While I’m not opposed to a moneyline play at U.S. betting sites, we can’t boast our value with the -3.5 point spread.
Rodriguez is unproven and untested in multiple facets, the red flags are endless, and this is a bout I expect Levy to dominate wherever the fight takes place.
