We learned today that the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant will be suspended for 25 games without pay. Los Angeles Country Club played like a regular course designed for its rich members, not like a U.S. Open track.

Watch for adjustments after the lowest first-round scores ever. We also have news on DraftKings, Michael Jordan, and an amusing short video on NBA champion Aaron Gordon, along with loads of free picks and top trends.

About Last Night…

Golf

Annually, the U.S. Open is believed to be the toughest four days of golf because of course conditions. Playing at an extremely private club in the heart of Los Angeles added an air of mystery.

However, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele both shot never before seen 62s (lowest rounds ever for this Open). Fowler in fact had 10 birdies, which had never occurred, and the scoring average in the first round was 71.38, the lowest in an opening round of a U.S. Open in the past 90 years, according to ESPN Stats & Information. This event is not supposed to be the John Deere Classic.

Expect tougher pin placement the rest of the way but with the fairways this wide, not much they can do now.

MLB

Three stories of note.

The Cubs’ lousy season took a turn for the better at least in sweeping first-place Pittsburgh. Chicago is still only 31-37 (-5.7 units), but they punished what generally had been a sound Pirates bullpen for 16 total runs in the series.

I’m the first to admit, even though I’m actually somewhat of a fan of the L.A. Angels, I thought this was a below .500 team going into the season. The Angels just took three of four at Texas and are a season-high seven games over .500 and just six games out in the loss column to Texas and in the wild-card chase. What I did not count on was the contributions from the farm system that has made the Halos a much deeper club. With Mike Trout hitting just .248, if he gets going, the Angels become even more interesting.

After dropping the series opener at Arizona to fall to 13-23 on the road, the Phillies rallied to win the next three games and take the series. That pushed Philadelphia over .500 at 35-34 (-5.9) and they can do even better playing three at Oakland this weekend.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Kansas City is 4-24 when playing against a team with a winning record this season.
  • Cincinnati is 10-3 (+11.9 Units) vs. an AL starting pitcher whose ERA is 3.70 or better.
  • San Diego is 12-0 Under vs. teams averaging 3.5 or more extra-base hits per game.
  • Milwaukee is 11-1 Under at home when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season.
  • Taijuan Walker of the Phillies is 12-1 after giving up one or less earned runs in last outing. (Team’s record)
  • Michael Kopech and the White Sox are 1-9 after giving up no earned runs in last outing.
  • Washington is 12-5 (+15.5 Units) vs. a starting pitcher with good control (less than 1.75 BB's/start) this season. (Saturday)

WNBA

  • Los Angeles is 6-0 ATS as a home favorite of 6 points or less.
  • Washington is 7-1 Under as a favorite this season.

CFL

  • Saskatchewan is 1-8 ATS in home games versus division opponents.
  • Edmonton is 15-34 ATS the first two weeks of the season. (Saturday)
  • Toronto is 31-14 Under as a home underdog of three points or less. (Sunday)

What to Watch For and Win (Hopefully)

MLB

It is for another big weekend of baseball with some fascinating series like Toronto vs. Texas, Pittsburgh vs. Milwaukee, and Tampa Bay vs. San Diego. Will any of these be part of our MLB Picks and a variety of facets? You’ll have to check to find out, but it will be worth the trip.

UFC

It is UFC Vegas 75 and we have free selections on the preliminary card, and main card, along with props and parlay for you to consider.

The Buzz

NBA – Ja Morant Suspended

The Commish Adam Silver said this was coming and Morant was suspended for 25 games to start the season.

To the surprise of nobody, the NBA Players Association is unhappy with the length of Ja Morant’s suspension and the arbitrary nature of the conditions for his return. “We believe it’s excessive and inappropriate for a number of reasons…” NBPA Executive Director Tamika Tremaglio says.

Sports Betting – Odd Move by DraftKings

Evidently, in an effort to slow Fanatics from becoming a larger player in the U.S. betting marketplace. DraftKings today put in an offer of $195 million, which is roughly $45 million more than Fanatics did for PointsBet.

While PointsBet’s board had agreed to the Fanatics deal, shareholders have yet to officially accept Fanatics’ proposition and were scheduled to vote on the prospective acquisition on June 30 according to Darren Rovell of The Athletic.

NBA – Warriors Higher Their Next GM

Golden State Warriors executive Mike Dunleavy Jr., has agreed to a deal to become the franchise’s new general manager. Dunleavy Jr. — who had a 15-year NBA playing career — is elevating in the front office to replace Bob Myers who stepped down after four titles.

This won’t be an easy job going forward with aging stars and a likely rebuild in the not-too-distant future.

Top Betting System

MLB – Angels (-142 ML) at Royals

Play against AL home teams like Kansas City with a starting pitcher whose ERA is 6.20 or worse on the season, playing on Friday. (Friday because that is 75% or more series opener). Since 2019, teams like the Royals are 9-32 in this spot.

Out The Door

MLB – Shohei Ohtani is One Sick Baseball Player

Shohei Ohtani is batting .301 against MLB pitchers and against him, MLB batters are hitting .178. Un-freakin-believable.

NBA – Michael Jordan Selling His Shares of the Washington Wizards

Though Jordan never built a winner on the floor, he came out a REAL WINNER.

NBA – Nuggets Arron Gordon Explains His Feelings

What Bettors Like – Play or Fade?

MLB - Top 5 Bets by Percentage (highest first) (89-61 record, 43-28 run (4-11 of late) )
