Will Viktor Hovland win in L.A. this weekend? Yes, I think he can. The recent Memorial Tournament winner, Viktor Hovland looks primed perfectly for his first major championship this week at the U.S. Open.

A few weeks ago, at the last major, the PGA Championship he dueled for the title with Brooks Koepka and the Norwegian did very little wrong. His smart shot selection was very measured and a more strategic approach is what works perfectly in modern major events.

2023 U.S. Open

June 15-18 at Los Angeles Country Club (LACC) – Par 70, 7314 yards

Playing Smart

He attributed his recent success to that new maturity in his game when discussing his recent Memorial win saying.

“I didn’t really feel like I hit it my best the whole week. I just played really smart, played conservatively.”

Hovland contended in the Masters and Players Championship prominently all week long and is becoming very comfortable in contention at the top of the sport.

Week by week, Viktor Hovland is looking closer to the finished article. Winning this week would come as no surprise for the twenty-five-year-old, so take the (+1800) with Bovada amongst your best bets at BMR.

Main Betting Contenders

Scottie Scheffler (+750)

Scottie Scheffler is posting some outrageous strokes-gained numbers from tee to green in recent months but he has been undermined by some poor putting displays. Those ball-striking skills almost ensure Scottie Scheffler will not be far away this week.

Jon Rahm (+1100)

The Spaniard appears to have lost a little of his Hispanic intensity since winning the Masters. This week would be a good one to get it back, having experienced the course in his junior days.

Brooks Koepka (+1100)

Brooks is back to being the “major man” this year like he had never been away. The man to beat this week and he has won back-to-back majors before.

Value Range

Max Homa (+2500)

Max Homa is the local boy who shot 61 at the track back in his junior days. We know he loves a home game through his exploits down the road at Riviera. This track is hugely different but Homa is usually at his best on firm and fast conditions

Bryson DeChambeau (+4000)

Bryson DeChambeau was back to something like his best at the PGA Championship and with his physique returned to normal this could be a good week to back him for a second US Open

Tommy Fleetwood (+4000)

If the Englishman can recover from last week’s exertions, I cannot help but believe this week could be Tommy Fleetwood’s best chance of getting a major championship on the board. Fast and firm conditions, cambered fairways require a need to shape shots and when par is at its hardest, Tommy Fleetwood is your man.

Sleepers

Cameron Davis (+10000)

The Australian Cameron Davis is fast closing in on becoming an elite player in the world of professional golf. Last month his ball-striking at the PGA Championship was superb in his 4th place to back up 7th at the Heritage and 6th at the Players Championship.

Denny McCarthy (+10000)

For many years, Denny McCarthy has been known for his sublime putting skills on the PGA Tour, but for me, he is getting a reputation as one of the best performers in tough, fast and firm conditions. His runner-up finish a week ago at Memorial illustrated that and McCarthy managed a top 10 in last year's US Open.
