St. Louis Cardinals vs. Oakland Athletics

There weren’t many fans in attendance or runs posted on the scoreboard in Monday’s 3-1 Cardinals win in Oakland. St. Louis now sends veteran Lance Lynn (0-0, 2.63) to the bump opposite JP Sears (1-1, 5.17) of the A’s.

Lynn got off to a horrible start last year in St. Louis, was dealt to the Dodgers and then re-signed with the Cardinals this winter for his third stint in a Redbirds uniform. He has mixed 2 decent outings with an ugly effort so far in 2024.
Following 2 rough starts against the Guardians and Tigers, Sears had a solid effort against the stacked Rangers lineup by pitching a shutout ball into the seventh. The former Citadel star was no-decisioned against the Cardinals last year (5.1 IP, 3 ER, 6 K), a 2-run blast by Paul Goldschmidt doing most of the damage.

Monday’s win was the Cardinals’ first in Oakland since Adam Wainwright beat the A’s in June 2013. Expect another St. Louis dubya when my MLB pick is to back Lynn and the Birds.
