Can Cam Win Again in Detroit?

Australian Cameron Davis is a perfect fit for Detroit Golf Club and something of a Donald Ross design specialist. The twenty-eight-year-old former winner of the Australian Open in 2017 has a strong profile this week, having all his season’s best performances in the bigger events.

That includes a 6th at The Players Championship, a top 10 finish at the elevated RBC Heritage Classic, and an impressive 4th at the PGA Championship, interestingly on the Donald Ross design, Oak Hill. On the back of that big effort at the PGA Championship, Davis lost a little form for a few weeks but looked back close to his best last week at the Travelers Championship with a strong start and fast finish.

Take the hint that the Aussie is trending back into form and bet Cameron Davis for a win and top 10 this week at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic amongst your best bets at one of our top U.S. betting sites.

This year is the fifth renewal of the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit, Michigan on the PGA Tour.

Weather Forecast

A reasonably unsettled forecast in Detroit with Thursday being the best day of the week. There is the chance of thunderstorms on Saturday and rain forecast for the final three days but no strong winds.

Leading Betting Contenders

Tony Finau (+1200)

It’s been a very odd season for last year’s winner, Tony Finau. After his strong 2022 on the PGA Tour much was expected from the Utah man, particularly with regards to the major championships in which, he has disappointed so far.

The bright spot for Finau was an impressive win at the Mexico Open when he out-dueled Masters champion, Jon Rahm for an impressive win. I think with that information, the thirty-two-year-old looks like a solid top-of-the-market selection for many this week.

Tom Kim (+2200)

The South Korean phenom, Tom Kim, looks rock solid value at the top of the market this week now he is back close to top form. Donald Ross's designs are his thing!

Value Range Betting Suggestions

J.J. Spaun (+6000)

I cannot help but be drawn to J.J. Spaun’s solid chances this week at a track he has played every year and never finished worse than 32nd on those four occasions. Props and place markets look the places to play last year’s shock Texas Open winner.

Stephan Jäger (+5000)

The German, Stephan Jäger has a similar solid props market look to Spaun with some solid tee-to-green stats recently. Last year’s 5th was his best PGA Tour finish and those top 40 and top 20 markets beckon.

Nate Lashley (+7000)

Nate Lashley was the emotional winner shock winner of the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic of 2019. His career story had been a difficult one, shaped by the tragic loss of his parents and girlfriend in a plane crash after they had traveled to support him in his collegiate golf days.

Lashley has looked in and out of decent form all year and could be dangerous this week.

Sleepers

Troy Merritt (+20000)

Troy Merritt absolutely loves it here at the Detroit Golf Club as three top-14 finishes prove. This year has been a horrible one so far for a thirty-seven-year-old from Iowa whose playing privileges for next year are in danger and requires a big week with a ranking of 143 in FedEx standings currently. Last chance saloon to maybe find some form in 2023.

Russell Knox (+40000)

The Scot Russell Knox has been in similarly hideous form in 2023 but there have been hints of encouragement from his ball striking in the last two events. Give the Scot a second look at the props and place markets.
