Tonight is the last game of the College World Series and it sure does seem anything is possible after both LSU and Florida have won the last two days. Major League Baseball attendance is up over 7% this season and has seen big crowds the last few weeks.

Not sure how much, but the rule to speed up the action is producing a better product on the field. We also have weekend coverage about the Angels, Rangers, and fun Braves/Reds series along with bad news about Aaron Judge. This and a proposed (by someone) Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg bout.

About Last Weekend…

MLB

Though the L.A. Angels lost another series, this time to a rotten Colorado club, Saturday’s story was compelling. The Halos routed the Rockies 25-1, scoring 21 times in the third and fourth innings. The +24 margin of victory ties the 3rd-largest by any team since at least 1901. Still, the Angels have lost four of the last five and this summed up their series in Denver.

The Atlanta vs. Cincinnati series had 47 total runs scored and each contest had a one-run outcome with the Braves taking the last two to win the series. The oddsmakers did their best to combat Overs with all three games having totals of 11.5 or higher, but that still was not enough. Atlanta has the better team, but the Reds are on the rise.

Texas lost their series to the New York Yankees and had to be frustrated. The Rangers were favored in the last two contests (just barely on Sunday) but scored only seven runs in the series despite having 30 base knocks. In all, Texas left 30 runners on base which has to be hard to be hard to swallow for the top-scoring team in baseball.

College World Series

This evening is the title game for the College World Series. Game 1 between Florida and LSU was an 11-inning beauty with LSU winning 4-3. The Tigers had a 3-1 lead after two innings in Game 2 and looked poised to win the title when everything fell apart for LSU. The Gators scored the next 23 runs in the ballgame and wiped out LSU 24-4. The Tigers made matters worse by committing five errors. Here is what Florida accomplished.
  • Most runs in any MCWS game (24)
  • Most HR in a CWS Finals game (6)
  • Largest win margin in a CWS Finals game (+20)
  • Tied record for most hits in any MCWS game (23)

LSU is a -135 ML favorite in part because Paul Skenes, one of the top pitchers in college baseball, is expected to start. Skenes just pitched Thursday (120+ pitches) and will be on three days’ rest.

Trendy Talk

MLB – (Late afternoon or night games)

  • Atlanta is 18-5 after three or more consecutive road games this season.
  • L.A. Angels are 6-0 after having lost four of their last five games this season.
  • A. Heaney of Rangers is 12-2 Over in home games the last two seasons.
  • Cincinnati is 12-4 vs. an AL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.300 or better the last two seasons. (Tuesday)
  • Boston is 2-10 in home games in an inter-league game this season. (Tuesday)
  • St. Louis is 0-10 when playing against a marginal winning team (Win Pct. 51% to 54%) in 2023. (Tuesday)

WNBA

  • Las Vegas is 13-3 Over versus teams who average seven or less steals a game.

What to Watch for and Win (Hopefully)

MLB

The most fascinating series to start the week is the Reds vs. Orioles, two up-and-coming teams with exciting talent. On Tuesday a neat interleague series has the Rays at the D-Backs. You will have to review the free MLB picks to see if our experts like these individual games or which ones catch their fancy for top plays.

Football

As we all know football never really stops and we have quality future articles for you in the NFL and college football ready for you to digest for the upcoming season. Each week we will add new articles for you to enjoy leading up to the season.

The Buzz

MLB – Bet You Didn’t Know? (We didn’t either)

Since winning the World Series in 2019, things went south rather quickly for the Washington Nationals. But there is a fascinating and historic fact about this franchise.

From OPTAStats - The Nationals haven't swept any of their last 90 series, the longest streak in MLB history. They just surpassed the 1914-1917 Philadelphia Athletics who went 89 series without a sweep.

Sports Betting News – More to the Story on PointsBet Sale?

Wow, this sounds crazy but when talking about people with money, it is likely true.

MLB – Rule Changes Appear to Have Made Baseball More Watchable Again

Over 1.5 million fans attended MLB games this past weekend for a third consecutive weekend, leading to the first back-to-back weekends of at least 35,000 fans per game since 2015.

MLB – Aaron Judge News Not Good

Over the weekend it was reported that Aaron Judge has a torn ligament in his big toe. As one might imagine, there is no timetable for such an injury. That is not good news for Yankees fans and their bettors.

Top Betting System

MLB – Tigers at Rangers (-200 ML & -110 RL)

Home favorites with a money line of -175 to -250 like Texas, after a loss by two runs or less, against an opponent after scoring three runs or less in straight games are 54-8 since 2019. The run line comes into play because the average margin of victory is 2.8 RPG.

Out the Door

Fighting – Elon Musk vs. Mark Zuckerberg

You probably heard about this recently as a possible fight between the two of them. Let’s face it, the Real Housewives of Atlanta would have more actual fighting than these two billionaires. Here is what this writer thinks about such a fight.
