A new survey regarding U.S. sports betting and gaming has discovered what some are calling the antidote for problem gambling – player education and betting limits.

At the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Las Vegas, Optimove shared that most players (75%) believe tools that promote safe gambling help them trust and stay loyal to online gaming sites. These findings are part of the 2023 Optimove report on what players like in online gaming marketing.

What’s even more interesting is that:

  • Almost all players (90%) set how much they want to bet ahead of time.
  • Nearly everyone (97%) knows about resources that promote safe gambling.
  • More than half (56%) actually use these resources.

This shows that online gaming sites doing more to promote safe gambling isn’t just good for players, but also makes players trust them more and likely stick around.

What Makes Some Sports Betting Sites Stand Out?

The study also found that the main reason people pick an online gambling site is because of good betting odds. In fact, 40% of the people asked said that’s the top thing they look for.

Bonuses are popular too, but they’re only one part of the story. People think that having an easy-to-use website is just as important as getting bonuses and special deals.

Fast and reliable payouts are also popular among players when picking a site to bet on. Interestingly, only 7% picked a gaming site because of the range of games they offer.

Even though sportsbook operators are big on parlays, the people who took part in this survey don’t feel the same. 70% prefer to place individual sports bets, while just 26% like parlays.

Another surprising finding… The Optimove report reveals that people like to bet during live games more than before they start.

56% of those surveyed enjoy betting live during games, while only 40% prefer to bet before a game kicks off.

Safe Gambling Still Top of Mind for Operators

Safe gambling continues to be a big concern. If online game operators don’t focus on safe gambling, players might face problems, and they might stop trusting and staying loyal to these operators. A good relationship between players and operators is crucial for long-lasting success.

The survey gives five top tips to help online game operators be more responsible and build better relationships with players:

  1. Highlight Safe Gambling: Operators should show resources about safe gambling clearly on their websites and in their ads to build trust.
  2. Support Setting Limits: Operators should make it easy for players to decide how much they want to bet, helping them stay in control.
  3. Educate Players: Operators should teach players about safe gambling, like the risks and how to know if gambling is becoming a problem.
  4. Watch and Help: Operators should keep an eye on how players are doing and step in with help if they see signs of problems. This shows they care about their players.
  5. Use Data Smartly: Operators should use data to spot players who might be at risk and step in early to help them.

As the world of sports betting continues to evolve and expand, it’s nice to see the industry taking steps to ensure that players bet responsibly. From educational campaigns to user-friendly tools, operators are demonstrating a commitment to not just the thrill of the game, but also the well-being of their patrons.

As bettors, it’s essential to be aware of these resources and utilize them. After all, the true essence of sports betting lies in enjoying the experience responsibly, ensuring that the fun lasts for years to come.
