I was thinking about his.

If they were hot dogs, then yeah.

But I get the feeling my little inflation calculation is missing some dollar to value metrics specific to MLB, further worldwide growth, etc.

It might be better for us to say that MLB has inflated much faster, though we can't say just how much, than everything else.

Which is a true statement towards all major sports anyway.
I agree its apples and oranges comparison.
I was just being funny.

Same goes in any major sport. Prices (contracts) are more inflated now than they were 20 years ago and I expect in 20 years, they will be inflated even higher.

Inflation in major sports is waaaaay higher than standard inflation.

Maybe you should inflate the salary based on the inflation rate for MLB ticket prices to get a more accurate number but then you have to ask the chicken and egg question.

Did contracts drive ticket prices or did higher ticket prices allow for bigger contracts?

Ticket prices are not tied to player salaries.

The market analysis for ticket prices seeks the efficient and most profit given market demand. What they pay players, a payroll that flucutates every year due to other market factors, aren't used in that ticket price market analysis.

I know it might seem counterintuitive, but high ticket prices are their own thing for their own economic reasons.

One of those reasons is NOT player salaries.

Also, there are plenty examples and evidence that shows that cutting payrolls doesn't decrease ticket prices.

Sadly, general ticket prices almost never go down, outside of specials.

Remember, mlb is a monopoly granted by the us gov't. So they can do what they want as far as ticket competition, you can rarely just go across town to the other, cheaper MLB game, but when we're talking about a market demand for tickets it involves a wider net of entertainment.

MLB games are just one option for people when choosing what to do that night, like going out to dinner instead, or staying home.
