WAgs, SMU is a pretty good team. I could give some reasons why people were reluctant to bet them today:

1) Schedule was not so good down the stretch.
2) Backup QB. SMU made an error by exposing the QB Stone to injury in last game vs Navy.
3) Conf Champ game but on Tulane's field.

SMU is pretty good, tho.

I'll post one more comment on late-season Coll FB games:
*Used to be a great time to identify value plays.

Now, the Bowl games are a mess:
1) Marginal prospects - sit out to avoid injury risk.
2) Transfer portal - guys quit on the team.

...It's crazy to me. Bowls used to be a great chance to showcase your talent. Not so anymore.
