I meant less of our government.

I know, that's why I said "sure, it took our gov't to do it..."

But is this really an instance of government intrusion in our lives? It's a chinese company being forced to divest.

The people may never even no the difference yet thanks to their gov't all kinds of things will be true, from data safety (from China at least) to a broader cultural attack on manipualtion.

Our gov't did it for a selfish reason, for sure, but the people really only stand to benefit without changing any behavior.

That's good gov't intervention. Make us safer without us even noticing.

Make America Great Again

Sure about that???...Is Trump already bought?...

Trump said that Tik Tok is a National Security threat but is against banning it now, he flipped, because he met with a GOP megadonor hedge fund manager with a large stake in TikTok.

So now Trump reasoned publicly on CNBC that banning Tik Tok is a bad because it would help Facebook, and Trump doesn't want to benefit Facebook.

Looks like National Security took a back seat once the megadonor chimed in.

LOL

What does the ban do? Does that mean it is removed drom the app stores and can’t be downloaded in the US?

What about people that already have the app downloaded? Will it still work?

It's not a ban, yet. The parent company, Bytedance, will be required to sell to an American company.

There are already many buyers for it.

Still has to through Senate and be signed by the White House, but that is likely to occur.

I seriuosly doubt the app will all of the sudden become "unavalable" as there are like 170 million users to draw data from.

And remember, data is the new gold.

They are concerned the the parent company ByteDance will share browser and geolocation information of Americans with the Chinese Gov't.

ByteDance says they won't do that, but we know Chinese companies often have no choice.

Congress says TikTok must sell to an American company to continue operating in the US.

But a couple years ago they initiated Project Texas. This was a US Gov't, TikTok, and Oracle joint venture that would put all the American info on servers in Texas that could not be connected to China, keeping the info safe.

Not sure what happened with that.

Yeah I know. I’m asking about if it does get banned. How does the ban work?

I have apps on my phone that are no longer in the app store and the apps work fine. So I’m wondering if it will be the same for TikTok?

I haven’t read the bill yet. But if I was a betting man, I would wager that it paves the way for our government to do the same thing to other Apps and websites that it doesn’t agree with.
